Demon Slayer Season 3's Latest Teaser Gives Us A Look At Some New Upper Moon Demons

Modern shonen anime mega hit "Demon Slayer" has earned a sizable audience in spite of its relatively young age, currently consisting of just two seasons and a movie — a far cry from, say, the thousand-plus episodes of genre peer "One Piece." Among various reasons fans enjoy "Demon Slayer" is its flashy animation, which some have credited with single-handedly elevating what otherwise could have been standard action sequences into must-watch territory.

In February of 2022, fans of "Demon Slayer" Season 2 got some good news when it was officially announced that its sequel would not be a film, like how "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train" followed up its first season, but rather a fully-fledged Season 3. This upcoming season will adapt a storyline from its comic book source material called the Swordsmith Village Arc, and "Demon Slayer" fans could hardly contain their excitement for Season 3 upon the premiere of some preliminary footage.

This first preview showcases characters like Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and protagonist Tanjiro's Demon Slayer peer Genya, neither of whom are new characters, but both of whom will seemingly appear in prominent roles for the first time. Now, a promotion Aniplex premiered on February 3 revolves around some of the show's strongest villains, including a couple of Upper Moon demons new to the anime.

New foes are coming to the Demon Slayer anime

On February 3, the Japanese-language Aniplex YouTube channel shared a teaser for "Demon Slayer" Season 3 revolving around the six Upper Moon demons that make up the strongest contingent of the show's villainous faction. First, the video highlights Akaza as well as the pairing of Daki and Gyutaro, who existing fans will recognize as villains from "Mugen Train" and Season 2 respectively.

Then, the teaser transitions to a new demon named Gyokko, with mouths in place of his eyes and eyeballs aligned vertically on his face. He's ranked fifth among the Upper Moon demons, one rank higher than Daki and Gyutaro. Next up is Hantengu, shown just as a face peering over a ledge. He's ranked fourth. After that is a human-like demon named Doma, ranked second. Finally, viewers get a brief look at number one-ranked Kokushibo, who simply states, "Watashi wa koko ni iru," warning someone offscreen — and implicitly viewers as well — of his menacing presence. The video then pans over a collage of each of these demons together, before cutting to a logo for the series with the subtitle "上弦集結、そして刀鍛冶の里へ," which can be translated to, "gathering of the Upper Moon demons, and then off to the Swordsmith Village."

As detailed by Crunchyroll, following a theatrical tour of its first episode, the Swordsmith Village Arc will officially premiere in April of this year, at which point anime viewers can learn more about these new Upper Moon demons.
