TV Shows Coming In 2025 We Should All Be Excited About
2024 has been a great year for TV. On top of new seasons of big series such as "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" and "Only Murders in the Building," viewers have been treated to some brand new shows. In the superhero arena we've had Marvel's "Agatha All Along" and DC's "The Penguin," and there's been plenty of offerings for those who don't enjoy comic book adaptations, including Cate Blanchett's psychological thriller miniseries "Disclaimer" and ABC's crime drama "High Potential," an adaptation of the hit French series "HPI."
There's been something for everyone in 2024, though TV lovers are already thinking about 2025, and rightfully so — looking at the schedule, it's shaping up to be another fantastic year in television, with several brand new shows getting us excited. What's great about the 2025 slate is that there's a lot of variety there. From interesting network dramas and documentaries to big budget streaming events and groundbreaking animated projects, we can't wait to see these new TV shows in 2025.
Watson
If you're a fan of the CBS show "Elementary," a contemporary retelling of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories, then you'll definitely want to check out the network's upcoming show "Watson." Like "Elementary," it updates the Sherlock Holmes mythos for modern audiences, though the famous detective is actually dead by the time the series kicks off.
"'Watson' takes place six months after the death of the titular character's friend and partner Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty," CBS revealed in a press release, adding that Watson "resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders. Watson's old life isn't done with him, though – Moriarty and Watson are set to write their own chapter of a story that has fascinated audiences for more than a century."
Morris Chestnut ("Kick-Ass 2") stars as Dr. John Watson, and he's joined by the likes of Eve Harlow ("The 100"), Peter Mark Kendall ("Strange Angel"), Ritchie Coster ("Blackhat"), Rochelle Aytes ("S.W.A.T."), and Inga Schlingmann ("So Help Me Todd"). The medical/mystery drama will drop on both CBS and Paramount+ after the AFC Championship Game in January.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
The upcoming animated Marvel show "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" was originally scheduled for release at the back end of 2024. It was pushed to 2025, but, fortunately for Spidey fans, the wait is almost over — the show will drop on Disney+ in January. Created by Jeff Trammell ("Craig of the Creek"), the Marvel Cinematic Universe series takes place in an alternate timeline in which Peter Parker has been mentored not by Tony Stark, but Oscorp head honcho Norman Osborn. It's been confirmed that Dr. Strange, Venom, and Rhino will all pop up, too. The series will explore the web-slinger's early days as a superhero, when he's still getting used to his powers (an era that was overlooked in the live-action MCU films).
Hudson Thames ("The A-List") is voicing Spider-Man, reprising the role from Marvel's animated "What If...?" series, while Norman Osborn is voiced by Colman Domingo ("Sing Sing"). Charlie Cox will also feature, voicing the animated version of his character Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil). Other cast members include Eugene Byrd ("8 Mile") as Lonnie Lincoln, Hugh Dancy ("Ella Enchanted") as Otto Octavius, Kari Wahlgren ("Rick and Morty") as May Parker, Zeno Robinson ("The Owl House") as Harry Osborn, and Paul F. Tompkins ("BoJack Horseman") as Bentley Wittman.

Win or Lose
2025 is shaping up to be a big year for Pixar fans. Not only is there a brand new feature length film on the way in the form of the intergalactic adventure "Elio," but there's also the first-ever original long-form series from the animation giant to look forward to. Scheduled for release on Disney+ in February, "Win or Lose" follows the ups and downs of a softball team called the Pickles as the young players prepare for their championship game. It's going to be eight episodes long, and each entry will follow a different player.
It's clear from the first trailer that the Pickles are very much an underdog team out to earn the respect of their peers. The trailer also makes it clear that no corners have been cut in terms of animation — the show looks as crisp and colorful as any Pixar film. According to the company's chief creative officer Pete Docter, it's classic Pixar in a whole new format. "We consider 'Win or Lose' a major, first-of-its-kind tentpole series, one that really showcases what I think makes our studio great: bold, imaginative storytelling; laugh-out-loud humor; and characters that we can all relate to," he said in a press release.

Daredevil: Born Again
The so-called Defenders Saga may have been relegated to TV history at this point, but there was one roaring success from Netflix's foray into Marvel shows: Charlie Cox's Daredevil. Fans were thrilled when they found out that Cox was set to reprise the role in a new Daredevil show, and it's not too far away now. Titled "Daredevil: Born Again," the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe installment will once again see blind superpowered lawyer Matt Murdock tangle with New York crime boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio).
What's interesting is that Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk actually form an uneasy alliance, as the actors confirmed at New York Comic Con 2024. "One of the things that we tease and talk about a little bit at the beginning of the show is that maybe there's a sense that both Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk have recognized that, in their obsession to rid the city of the other, they have potentially caused the city and society more harm than they've done good," Cox told Collider.
But why the truce? Because there's an even worse villain than Fisk on the scene here, one who is a relatively new addition to Marvel canon. Lots of exciting details were revealed in the "Daredevil: Born Again" teaser footage, including the presence of Muse, a serial killer created by Charles Soule and Ron Garney in 2016. The teaser also confirms the return of Jon Bernthal's Punisher, another standout from Netflix's Marvel shows. We'll have to wait until the nine-episode season begins airing on Disney+ to find out exactly where he fits in.

Devil May Cry
If you're a fan of the "Devil May Cry" video games, then you're no doubt looking forward to Spring 2025, because that's when a brand new animated series based on the title is set to arrive on Netflix. The show is created by Indian-American producer, writer, and director Adi Shankar, who has a great track record in this area — Shankar is known for the animated Netflix shows "Castlevania" and "Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix."
For those unfamiliar with the story, "Devil May Cry" follows a demon hunter named Dante as he attempts to keep our world safe from various evil forces. They're often described as urban fantasy action-adventure games, and the same is being said of the upcoming series, which will no doubt be music to the ears of those who love the mix of fantastical elements and familiar settings. Sadly, the original English voice actor for Dante in the games (Reuben Langdon) is not reprising his role, though fans will know all about his replacement: Johnny Yong Bosch, who voices Dante's nephew Nero in the games, is taking the reins.
This change seems to have some fans worried, but Shankar has reassured them that he's putting his all into the series. "We are working very hard because we love the franchise and because we want to deliver something great," he told Netflix's Tudum. "Our goal wasn't just to pump out another animated show. My goal is to make one of the best shows on the Netflix platform — period."

Ironheart
Dominique Thorne made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Riri Williams (aka Ironheart) in 2022's "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," and she's set to front her own MCU six-episode miniseries in 2025. Created by Chinaka Hodge ("The Midnight Club") and produced by "Black Panther" mastermind Ryan Coogler, "Ironheart" takes place after the events of "Wakanda Forever" and it follows Riri after she returns to her hometown of Chicago, where a new villain awaits.
In the comics, Riri caught the attention of Tony Stark after building her own Iron Man-style suits. She's described as "a young, genius inventor determined to make her mark on the world" in the upcoming show's official synopsis, which also states: "Her unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins aka The Hood."
Who is The Hood, you may be wondering? He's a Marvel baddie who will pose a big threat, not only to Riri, but potentially to the wider MCU. Robbins was a petty criminal in his early years, but he stumbled upon a demonic ritual while robbing a warehouse. Long story short, he comes away with a demon's cloak that allows him to fly and remain invisible as long as he holds his breath. He's portrayed in the upcoming show by Anthony Ramos ("In the Heights"). Other cast members include Lyric Ross ("This Is Us"), Manny Montana ("The Mule"), Zoe Terakes ("The End"), and Alden Ehrenreich ("Solo: A Star Wars Story").

Alien: Earth
The 2024 box office hit "Alien: Romulus" breathed new life into the long-running horror/sci-fi franchise, and 2025 will see another new entry, this one on the small screen. The FX series "Alien: Earth" brings the carnage to our planet, as the show's official synopsis confirms: "When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet's greatest threat."
"Alien: Earth" is created by Noah Hawley, the showrunner behind the FX shows "Legion" and "Fargo." He's been hyping up his new project's USP in interviews: The fact that we're going to finally see what would happen if a Xenomorph actually made it to our planet. "There's something about seeing a Xenomorph in the wilds of Earth with your own eyes," Hawley told Deadline. "It's truly chilling to think of it moving here among us, and so I can't tell you under what circumstances you'll see that, but you'll see it – and you're going to lock your door that night."
Joining lead Sydney Chandler on the cast are Alex Lawther ("The End of the F***ing World"), Timothy Olyphant ("Justified"), Essie Davis ("The Babadook"), Samuel Blenkin ("The Witcher: Blood Origin"), Babou Ceesay ("We Hunt Together"), David Rysdahl ("Fargo"), and Adrian Edmondson ("3 Body Problem"), among others. "Alien: Earth" will be available to stream only on Hulu.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight
HBO's "Game of Thrones" prequel series "House of the Dragon" has been a huge hit for HBO, and execs will be hoping that their next show set in the universe created by George R. R. Martin will be just as successful. "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight" was actually announced back in 2023, but development ground to a halt during the Hollywood strikes that gripped the industry that year.
With agreements now in place and the Tinseltown machine back in motion, we can expect to see "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight" in 2025. Martin himself confirmed this in a June 2024 blog post, writing: "Filming started last week in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where much of the original 'Game of Thrones' was shot. Based on my novella 'The Hedge Knight,' the new show will debut early next year, in 2025. Only six episodes for this one. A novella is considerably shorter than a novel (particularly one of my novels), so there's less source material."
The upcoming series is a lot closer to "Game of Thrones" than "House of the Dragon" in terms of the Westeros timeline, taking place approximately a hundred years before the events of the flagship show. It stars former rugby player Peter Claffey as Dunk, a near-seven-foot tall squire who passes himself off as a hedge knight named Ser Duncan the Tall so he can enter a tournament. He co-stars with Dexter Sol Ansell ("The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes"), who plays his far smaller squire, Egg.
Release date: 2025 (TBD)
It: Welcome to Derry
The long-gestating "It" spin-off "It: Welcome to Derry" is finally coming to small screens in 2025. Fans of the 2017 film and its 2019 sequel "It Chapter Two" will be pleased to know that the upcoming prequel series is being handled by Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, the brother-sister duo behind the movies. "As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King's 'It' until the thick paperback fell to pieces," the siblings said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter). "It is an epic story that contains multitudes, far beyond what we could explore in our 'It' movies. We can't wait to share the depths of Steve's novel, in all its heart, humor, humanity and horror."
In more great news for fans of the "It" films, it's been confirmed that Bill Skarsgård is reprising his role as Pennywise, the best-known form of the franchise's titular entity. Alongside Skarsgård (who is also an executive producer on the project) are Taylour Paige ("Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F"), Jovan Adepo ("To Catch a Killer"), Chris Chalk ("Perry Mason"), Stephen Rider ("Daredevil"), and James Remar ("Oppenheimer"). While there's no official synopsis yet, the series is thought to be set in the 1960s. Per Variety, it will also delve into Pennywise's origin story.
"It: Welcome to Derry" was originally slated to be released under the Max banner, but in June 2024, news broke that bosses at Warner Bros. had decided on a new streaming strategy: Big budget projects like "It: Welcome to Derry" and the upcoming "Harry Potter" reboot series would instead be released as HBO Originals. However, Deadline reports that these shows "will air on Max day and date with their linear debuts," so Max subscribers won't miss out.
Release date: 2025 (TBD)
Running Point
Another brand new show set to debut on Netflix in 2025, "Running Point" is a sports comedy produced by Mindy Kaling. Kate Hudson stars as Isla Gordon, a goal-driven woman who has a lot to prove when she's unexpectedly named as the new head of her family's basketball franchise. "When her brother is forced to resign from his position as president of the Los Angeles Waves, she's appointed in his place," the synopsis reads (via Tudum). "Now that she's stepping up into the family business, she's going to have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job."
The world of basketball is very much male dominated, and there's no doubt that a lot of the humor will be mined from Isla being viewed as an outsider. Hudson is joined by Max Greenfield as her fiancé, Brenda Song as the Waves' chief of staff, and Scott MacArthur and Drew Tarver, who play Isla's brothers. Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, and Roberto Sanchez also feature. The first season will run for a total of 10 episodes.
According to Hudson, the set had a great atmosphere. "I laugh so hard every day," she told Variety in June 2024. "I was just looking around last night at this big arena we were shooting in, with all these people and the players, and I was like, this has been such a dream job. I hope it works. I hope we do four seasons." If audiences have as good a time as the cast and crew seemingly have, then there's no reason that Hudson's wish for the show to run for a long time won't come true.
Release date: 2025 (TBD)
Waller
Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) is the head of the government agency A.R.G.U.S., but that doesn't mean she always plays by the rules. In 2021's "The Suicide Squad," she recruits villains to form a team that carries out dangerous missions in return for reduced prison sentences. That film led to the spinoff TV series "Peacemaker" in 2022, which took place after the events of the movie. Now that show is getting its own spinoff, one that follows Amanda Waller as she makes tough choices while running A.R.G.U.S. The series is likely to have an edgy vibe and explore heavy themes, such as moral ambiguity.
Christal Henry, who served as executive producer for "Watchmen," is a writer and executive producer on the series, and Jeremy Carver, creator of "Doom Patrol," is also helping out as a writer. On top of that, fans will be happy to know that many of the original actors will be reprising their roles. "We're using the same actors; this is a continuation of 'Peacemaker,'" Gunn told the press (via Deadline). "I'm working on 'Superman,' so we can't do 'Peacemaker' Season 2. We're working on 'Waller' in between."
"Waller" was initially penciled in for a 2024 release, though it was pushed back in the pecking order "for a variety of reasons," Gunn said on Threads (via Bleeding Cool), adding, "unlike most studios, we'll never start production on a process if the script isn't finished. Quality is the utmost priority." It's now expected to arrive sometime in 2025, though no actual date has been confirmed and this is subject to change.
Release date: 2025 (TBD)
Underdogs
National Geographic's "Underdogs," a documentary series about the unsung heroes of the animal kingdom, is due to hit TV screens in 2025. Unlike many other documentaries that feature beautiful and majestic animals, this doc focuses on animals with unusual appearances, questionable hygiene, and bizarre courtship rituals. It's narrated by the always hilarious Ryan Reynolds, so viewers of all ages are bound to have some laughs while learning about these weird creatures and their even weirder behavior. "We're already having a lot of fun trying to bring a new voice to animal docs," Reynolds said in a statement. "We'll deliver a show that is entertaining, surprising, and will do justice to animals usually stuck as supporting cast."
The show is produced by Maximum Effort — a company co-founded by Reynolds — and Wildstar Films. Executive producers include Reynolds, George Dewey, Mark Linfield, Vanessa Berlowitz, and Dan Rees. The people at National Geographic are clearly excited about the project, with the company's content president Courteney Monroe telling Deadline that all the stars aligned for it. "Underdogs represents an entirely fresh take on the natural history genre that is sure to delight and inform audiences of all ages," said Monroe. "With Ryan and Maximum Effort's irreverent spirit and Wildstar's award-winning expertise in wildlife storytelling, we have assembled the perfect team to tell the entertaining stories of nature's unsung heroes with both humor and heart."

Our Water World
Netflix has been making moves to up its documentary game in recent years. In 2022, the streamer announced a slate of six natural history docs, beginning with "Our Universe" in 2022. "Our Planet II," "Life on Our Planet," "Our Oceans," and "Our Living World" all followed, and the final film of the bunch is due for release in 2025. It's called "Our Water World," and it's all about the intricate freshwater systems that make life on Earth possible. "From Earth's icy realms to its rushing rivers and epic waterfalls to magical cloud forests, this is the mysterious, surprising and captivating story of our planet's extraordinary freshwater worlds," Netflix said of "Our Water World" in a statement.
There's no word on who is narrating the film as of this writing ("Our Universe" and "Life on Our Planet" were both narrated by Morgan Freeman, while famed British broadcaster and biologist David Attenborough brought his calming tones to "Our Planet II"), but we do know who is involved on the production side. According to Netflix, Jackie Garbutt will serve as series producer, while James Honeyborne acts as executive producer. The latter is a former executive producer at the BBC Natural History Unit, where he worked on the BAFTA-winning series "Big Blue Live" and several other well-received docs. "Our Water World" will consist of five hour-long episodes.
