Michael B. Jordan's Love Of Anime Is On Full Display In Creed III's Final Trailer
If Michael B. Jordan didn't have enough on his plate handling the directing duties and starring in "Creed III," a brand new trailer for his upcoming threequel assures us he's about to face a major (or should we say, Majors) threat with his latest opponent. The first in the "Rocky" spin-offs that will be lacking the Italian Stallion will center on an old friendship that turns into a bitter rivalry. Joining Jordan's Adonis Creed in the ring this time around will be Damien Anderson, played by Jonathan Majors, who looks like an absolute force to be reckoned with.
What's interesting about this latest preview is that it is fortifying Jordan's previous comments that "Creed III" will take a few anime-flavored jabs to bring this brand-new chapter to life. Both its story and visual style look like they should come with building-breaking explosions and fire emanating from both opponents from what's on show, with some key shots standing out in particular.
A stunning slo-mo shot looks just like the anime Hajime no Ippo
In an interview with Total Film, it had already been revealed that Jordan was looking to the boxing anime "Hajime no Ippo" for inspiration in "Creed III," and the preview confirms he's landed plenty of good hits. In particular, there's a jaw-dropping, slo-mo shot toward the end of the trailer that shows sweat bouncing off Donnie's back, courtesy of a hit from Damien, which is straight out of the anime style. Jordan also teased the emotional journeys of both characters being inspired by anime, and it's clear from the trailer that we'll be getting an in-depth look at both sides of the feud.
Worry not, though. In lieu of Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) himself, Creed will be getting some unexpected help from his last foe, Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu), son of Ivan. Shown in snippets from the essential training montage required for any fight movie, Drago Jr. is seen stepping in as Donnie's sparring partner for "Creed III." It's good to see they've managed to put their differences aside this time, much like his father and Rocky did back in the day. The only question is, will it be enough to take Damien down and come out on top? Will it also lead to a set-up for the long-rumored "Drago" spin-off that has, unfortunately, caused some tension between Stallone and MGM? We can only wait and see when the bell rings and "Creed III" takes a swing into theatres on March 3.
