Where Is Point Place In That '90s Show?
"That '90s Show" is the latest in a long line of sitcom revivals, many of which are based on series from decades ago. Like other similarly themed sequel shows, such as "Fuller House," the new series focuses on weaving in members of its original cast while also focusing on a new generation of kids.
So far, the results seem to be fairly promising, with both critics and fans offering mostly positive reviews for "That '90s Show." Luckily, even as major characters from "That '70s Show," like Kelso (Ashton Kutcher) and Jackie (Mila Kunis), are put into the background, the new characters are generally compelling enough to make viewers want to return to Point Place. However, despite being a fixture of both series, this fictional version of Point Place has never explicitly been pinpointed on a map. For that reason, fans are still debating where Point Place actually is more than two decades after the town was first mentioned on television.
Fans have debated for years where the fictional community is located
While there has never been a clear answer as to where Point Place is exactly, it is obviously somewhere in Wisconsin. If the iconic yell of "Hello, Wisconsin" at the end of the main theme song wasn't a clear enough indication, there are references throughout both series that spell out pretty succinctly what state the story takes place in, such as Green Bay Packers paraphernalia and the like.
Nonetheless, fans still speculate about where in Wisconsin "That '90s Show" is set. While the original website for its parent series stated that Point Place was a suburb of Green Bay, Kurtwood Smith, who plays Red Forman in both series, said that Point Place is based on Fond du Lac when asked by a fan about it during a promotional tour in 2012. Meanwhile, one of the show's creators, Bonnie Hunter, says that the area is based on a suburb near Toledo, Ohio.
Still, that hasn't stopped fans from continuing to speculate about where the suburb is located, especially with the new buzz around "That '90s Show." To this day, some still say that Point Place is in Milwaukee or Port Washington. Either way, it's unlikely fans will ever get a straight answer since, like with the town of Springfield in "The Simpsons," the discourse is part of the fun.
