The Grudge Reboot Casts Betty Gilpin, Jacki Weaver
The Grudge reboot has tapped two new stars to crawl onto its cast roster.
As detailed by The Hollywood Reporter, Betty Gilpin and Jacki Weaver have been tapped to star in Sony's reimagining of The Grudge. Details on their characters haven't yet been revealed, though we do know that the pair join Demian Bichir, Andrea Riseborough, Lin Shaye, and John Cho for the film. Rounding out the current cast are William Sadler and Frankie Faison, but it's unclear which roles they're stepping into for The Grudge reboot.
Best known for her role as Debbie "Liberty Belle" Eagan on Netflix's acclaimed comedy-drama series GLOW, Gilpin made her first splash on the small screen as Dr. Carrie Roman on Nurse Jackie. She's also starred in series such as The Mysteries of Laura Isabel Van Doren, Elementary, Mercy Street, Masters of Sex, and American Gods. On the film side of things, Gilpin has appeared in Death in Love, Ghost Town, Take Care, and True Story. This year will see her star in Todd Strauss-Schulson's Isn't It Romantic.
Academy Award-nominated actress Weaver, known internationally for her performances in Animal Kingdom and Silver Linings Playbook, recently appeared in The Disaster Artist and Irreplaceable You. She'll next star opposite Melissa McCarthy in the college comedy movie Life of the Party, and in Zeroville, Widows, and Bird Box. Weaver currently holds a lead role on the Australian television series Secret City, on which she plays Senator Catriona Bailey.
Directed by The Eyes of My Mother filmmaker Nicolas Pesce, The Grudge reboot will haunt theaters starting August 16, 2019.
