Quantumania's Low Ratings Have MCU Fans Crying Foul (& Defending Ant-Man)
For all of its exciting pre-release promises, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" hasn't had the stellar reception many Marvel Cinematic Universe fans hoped for since it released. While the MCU film was supposed to mark the grander-than-ever third chapter of Ant-Man and The Wasp's solo adventures, as well as set up the exciting future of the universe through the introduction of "Avengers" baddie Kang the Conqueror, it's seen some scathingly poor ratings among critics. In fact, the movie has the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of any MCU film outside of "The Eternals," and general moviegoers have been fairly split on it as well.
Despite the amount of negative buzz, Ant-Man and the Wasp's great adventure into the Quantum Realm nonetheless still has its supporters. In fact, many bona fide fans of the MCU have grown vocal in pushing back against the poor reception to the movie, labeling it as an enjoyable romp and far from the worst that Marvel's long-running slate of big-budget films has to offer.
MCU fans don't think Quantumania is that bad
"Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" may have some less-than-stellar reviews, but MCU fans feel like the critical response to the movie has been overly harsh. "It's a fun adventure flick," u/Malachi108 commented. "The visuals are great. It has problems, but critics sound like it was fricking 'Morbius.'" Other viewers also noted their overall enjoyment of the movie. "It's not a bad film at all," u/bitjava wrote. "It's not perfect, but I look forward to watching it again at home. I say that as someone who can be pretty critical of the MCU at times."
Aside from defending the movie's merits, some fans have argued that the latest "Ant-Man" film is far more high-quality than other MCU movies that haven't gotten the same level of poor reception. "Can't believe this was rated lower than [Thor: Love and Thunder]," u/Novemberx123 wrote. "This is 10000% times better than that trash." Other fans pointed to "Black Widow" as another example of a film they felt was worse than "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania." Indeed, "Thor: Love and Thunder" has a Rotten Tomatoes critical score of 64 percent, while "Black Widow" has a 79 percent score.
Of course, it's possible that general sentiments towards "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" could shift over time to match those of the film's vocal defenders. Other Marvel movies have been seen as underrated despite mixed receptions at the time of their release, so it wouldn't be the first time.
