What Is The Song In HomeGoods' 'Finding Is A Feeling' Commercial?
The retail chain HomeGoods, a store that offers goods one might find in a home, has a new advertisement with a groovy song playing in the background. The commercial, called "Finding Is a Feeling," shows a woman finding a lamp inside the store, which she is magically pulled toward by a force that slides her across the aisle. Upon finding the lamp, two more people slide past her, similarly holding their found items. We then see even more people sliding all across the store with their items, eventually sliding out of the store with shopping carts full of products.
Drivers get in on the magic as well, with three cars drifting in a circle in the parking lot. We know you all were tempted to do the same thing the second you saw it, but as shown in the fine print at the bottom of the commercial, the scene was "staged using professional drivers on a closed course." In other words, don't try this at home!
Finally, we see people happy with their purchases filling the streets in a choreographed dance that looks a bit like the opening sequence of "In the Heights," if that movie were about furniture and kitchenware. It's a fun and energetic commercial, but what is the song that plays during it?
The song that plays during the commercial is Tom Tom Club's Genius of Love
The song that plays during the advertisement is an oldie but a goodie: Tom Tom Club's 1981 hit "Genius of Love." Released as a single by the husband and wife who founded the band, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, among others, the song quickly became a hit, lighting up the charts and remaining iconic even decades later.
It's a fitting tune for the advertisement, with the happy-go-lucky, groovy vibe that it creates pairing well with the happy but slightly odd scenes. Although the lyrics aren't present in the actual commercial, a couple of them refer to drug use, which would make sense given the song's otherworldly feel.
"Genius of Love" has been sampled in many other songs, including Mariah Carey's "Fantasy," which was featured in a trailer for "Free Guy." Tom Tom Club is also responsible for creating songs such as "Wordy Rappinghood" and a cover of "Under the Boardwalk." Their most recent album, "Downtown Rockers," was released in 2012.
