Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt To End After Season 4
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is signing off. According to Deadline, the Netflix comedy is set to end with its upcoming fourth season. Universal Television and Netflix are said to be in talks for a potential movie finale that could mark the conclusion for the show, which stars The Office's Ellie Kemper as the title character.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt features Kemper as Kimmy, a woman who has to adjust to her new life in New York City after being rescued from an underground bunker. The series also features Tituss Burgess as her dramatic roommate Titus Andromedon, Carol Kane as her eccentric landlord Lillian Kaushtupper, and Jane Krakowski as her out-of-touch rich friend Jacqueline Vorhees.
30 Rock's Tina Fey and Robert Carlock created Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which was initially set up at NBC before jumping ship to Netflix. The series has had a very successful run, earning 16 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including three nods for Outstanding Comedy Series, two nods for Kemper as an Outstanding Lead Actress, three nods for Burgess as an Outstanding Supporting Actor, and one nod for Krakowski as an Outstanding Supporting Actor.
Apparently, everyone involved in the show felt that it was coming time to wrap it up, leading to the setting of the fourth season as the show's last. The movie, though, could provide some additional closure for fans, if it moves forwards. Fey and Carlock would pen the script for the potential film, which would go into production after the fourth season wraps.
Season four of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is set to premiere in two parts, with the first six episodes hitting Netflix on May 30 and the remaining seven premiering at a later date.
