Taran Killam's Single Parents Ordered To Series At ABC
ABC is moving forward with Single Parents. According to Variety, the network has ordered the single camera comedy series, which stars Taran Killam, Leighton Meester, and Brad Garrett as a group of dysfunctional single parents who use each other for support as they raise their kids.
Saturday Night Live alum Killam will play Will Cooper, a single father who "has forgotten how to be a man." Meester, meanwhile, will play Angie, a "scrappy and strong" single mom with an overly-attached son. The Gossip Girl alum is fresh off a fun on the canceled Fox comedy Making History. Garrett, a three-time Emmy winner for Everybody Loves Raymond, will play Douglas, a rich and retired country club member who becomes a single dad to twins in his '50s. Douglas is said to have an old school approach to parenting and gender roles.
New Girl's J.J. Philbin and Elizabeth Meriwether co-wrote the script for the show, with Jason Winer (Modern Family) executive producing and directing the pilot and Katherine Pope (Touch) also executive producing. Kimrie Lewis, Jake Choi, Marlow Barkley, Tyler Wladis, Devin Trey Campbell, Grace Hazelett, and Sadie Hazelett also star in the series.
The only other new comedy ABC has ordered for next season is an untitled spin-off of The Goldbergs. They have, though, been friendly to their already existing comedies, renewing The Goldbergs, Black-ish, Fresh Off the Boat, American Housewife, Splitting Up Together, Speechless, Modern Family, and Roseanne. On the drama side, they have renewed The Good Doctor, Grey's Anatomy, How To Get Away With Murder, Station 19, and For the People.
