Yellowjackets: What Does Lottie Hear At The End Of Episode 3?
Contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" Season 2, Episode 3 — "Digestif"
Since Season 1, "Yellowjackets" fans have known beyond any shadow of a doubt that Lottie is going to play a huge role in the overall story. Played by Courtney Eaton as a teen and, as of Season 2, by Simone Kessell as an adult, Lottie Matthews is still shrounded in a ton of mystery; as a teen, when she runs out of her medication while stranded in the woods with the rest of her soccer team, she starts experiencing intense visions.
Those visions apparently return in adulthood, judging from a moment at the end of the season's third episode, "Digestif." With Tori Amos' song "Bells for Her" playing behind her, Kessell's adult Lottie approaches her apiary, the top of which is decorated with what appear to be dead bees. Lifting the lid, Lottie weeps when she finds the panels of the apiary soaked with blood ... but recovers herself when she realizes it was just a vision. She also hears a mysterious female voice say one short phrase in French: "Il veut du sang."
What does Lottie's vision mean?
What does "il veut du sang" mean in French, anyway? "He wants blood." So who is "he," and what does this cryptic message to Lottie mean?
Lottie's visions are pretty unsettling when they start happening in the teenage timeline, and this isn't even the first time the French language has been involved in one of her fugue states. In the Season 1 finale, before offering a bear heart up to some unknown force and placing it on a shrine, Lottie says, "Versez le sang, mes beaux amis," which translates pretty directly to "shed blood, my beautiful friends." She's even said something similar to "il veut du sang" before in Season 1 during a vision, repeating, "il veut ton sang," meaning the force wants blood from someone in particular. As for this vision about the bees, it's still a total mystery.
What Lottie's trances, visions, and dreams mean will surely be revealed as "Yellowjackets" continues, but this latest vision concerning her bees is, well, concerning. To follow Lottie's journey, catch "Yellowjackets" every Sunday night on Showtime until Season 2 wraps up.
