Gilmore Girls Fans Just Wanted To See Someone Finish Their Food For Once
There's a lot to love about "Gilmore Girls" — the touching mother-daughter relationship between Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Lorelai (Lauren Graham), the witty dialogue full of pop culture references, and all of the relationship drama — so it makes complete sense that it has remained such a beloved show over the years. But, of course, it's not a perfect show — fans have gripes with things such as the fate of Lane Kim (Keiko Agena) or the fact that Lorelai and Sookie's (Melissa McCarthy) work schedules don't make sense.
And speaking of nitpicks that bother fans, many "Gilmore Girls" viewers are distracted by the fact that none of the characters ever seem to finish their food. In a Reddit thread asking fans to name their weirdest complaint about the series, one user, u/buubkittyy, wrote, "They never finish, eat enough of their food. Many scenes where Luke serves the food and 2 seconds later they leave."
Rory and Lorelai waste a ton of food
In the Reddit thread, a huge bulk of the fans are in agreement about the fact that the characters, especially Rory and Lorelai, never finish the food they're eating.
In fact, as some fans have pointed out, a massive amount of food goes to waste in the Gilmores' day-to-day lives. One fan, u/oreoctopus, brought up a couple good points on the matter, writing, "It really really annoys me because it happens in every episode (sometimes multiple times) which means they would theoretically be wasting an astronomical amount of food and money while they're being portrayed as characters that are big eaters and clipping coupons to get by. It's ridiculous." Indeed, Rory and Lorelai's big appetites frequently come up in conversation — for instance, in the Thanksgiving episode they have multiple dinners to attend, and Lorelai jokes that it's what they've been training for their whole lives.
Meanwhile, u/Apart-Watercress-388 lamented, "I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE. they would literally order a big meal like pancakes, coffee, and eggs then leave for school & work 2 mins later."
Meanwhile, fans have suggestions for how this could have been fixed — for example, u/blixernoire pointed out that the show could have cut to them clearing the plates as the scene ends so it's implied that they actually eat their food. And u/procrastin8or951 chooses to pretend that other characters are in on it, writing, "My head Canon is that Luke is used to their ridiculousness and just boxes it up and [then] gives it to them when they're back in 2 hours."
