The Mandalorian Ch 22 Shows Us A More Terrifying Side To B2 Super Battle Droids
Contains spoilers for "The Mandalorian" Season 3, Episode 6 – "Chapter 22: Guns for Hire"
This week's cameo-filled adventure of the Mandalorian and Grogu saw the father-son-duo head to Plazir-15, with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) becoming makeshift cops to stop a crime spree of malfunctioning droids, orchestrated by Helgait.
Early in their investigation, the Mandalorian duo inspects an assembly of B2 Super Battle Droids repurposed to move cargo in the docking area. After a quick bullying session from Din, one of the droids retaliates, punching him and taking off in a full sprint. It wasn't enough for the Super Battle Droids to be the strongest in their class, but with speedy new locomotion improvements, they could be a terrifying plague set upon a galaxy far, far away.
B2 Super Battle Droids are a normal part of "Star Wars," but "The Mandalorian" took it a step further, showing that not only can they run, but they can actually be quite fast and agile. In previous appearances, Super Battle Droids walked slowly in combat, using their built-in wrist blasters to dispatch enemies — with Jedi usually using speed to outmaneuver the foes. "The Mandalorian" hints that the droids were highly underutilized, as they appear capable of running faster and jumping further than your average space creature.
Star Wars fans are in shock after seeing a B2 Super Battle Droid run
Following this week's premiere of "The Mandalorian," fans immediately flocked to Reddit to discuss the B2 Super Battle Droid running away from Din and Bo-Katan. U/will519 got the conversation started, saying, "I have never seen a Super Battle Droid run for its life," with u/bolognasandwich1 replying, "He fast."
U/The_Homestarmy admitted their fear, saying, "He [was] insanely fast that was honestly so frightening." U/EternalAssassin stated how weird it was to see the B2 sprint, writing, "I was so used to their steady marching that I didn't really even consider they could haul ass." U/MarthsBars called it "uncanny," imagining a fully-armed armored B2 charging towards you during battle. U/Lineman72T believes that the Separatists would have quickly won the war if B2s had moved like that during the Clone Wars. U/ARiftScuttler perfectly summed it up, saying, "Thick clanka go brrr," while u/Eli_8 pointed out how the Ugnaughts did masterful work tuning up the droids.
The consensus was clear, the B2 Super Battle Droids on Plazier-15 are simply built different, courtesy of the Ugnaughts. The episode's chase scene flexed the droids' capabilities to the max, and fans couldn't believe their eyes. Some fans, like u/PoorLifeChoices811 and u/MapleGiraffe, pointed out that the B2 didn't even use its built-in boosters during the chase, meaning that it can fly on top of out-running most creatures.
