The Marvels Trailer Has MCU Fans Excited (Despite Low Expectations)

Marvel fans were in for a special surprise when the first teaser trailer for "The Marvels" debuted on Tuesday, April 11. The followup to both 2019's "Captain Marvel" and the 2022 Disney + series "Ms. Marvel," the film sees the team up of Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) as they investigate a bizarre occurrence that is causing the trio to swap places whenever their powers are used.

It's safe to say that not too many fans were on the edge of their seats for this one. While "Captain Marvel" earned over $1 billion during its 2019 release and received generally positive reviews from critics, fans were more mixed on the venture. Much of the especially vitriolic response to that film admittedly came from online trolls, but there were also others who simply felt that the film was a largely generic entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And even though "Ms. Marvel" found a more favorable response, it wasn't necessarily an overwhelming success in the veins of other MCU projects. Top that off with the overall mediocrity of the MCU's recent efforts, and it seemed that "The Marvels" didn't stand much of a chance of pleasing fans.

However, with the teaser's release, fans such as YouTuber @SadeerEditx have said, "I'm totally HYPED right now! From almost 0 expectations!" While the film may have initially only had fans' curiosity, its eye-popping teaser has more than captured their attention.

Fans are hoping this gets the MCU back on track

You'd have to be an actual stick in the mud to not derive at least some joy from the teaser for "The Marvels." With its colorful direction, charismatic cast and promising premise, the MCU entry has fans, who were more or less indifferent on the upcoming film, begging for more.

Fans who initially had mixed feelings over the starring trio are more on board now. @PierreSui on YouTube didn't connect much with any of them at first, but admits that the trailer fleshes them out in interesting ways. "It looks like they are getting more personalty and better character arc," they comment. @Twnyc was always a fan of Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, but wasn't as sold on Kamala Khan or Monica Rambeau beforehand. But the new teaser similarly helped them turn a new leaf, commenting, "This movie looks like it will be good and fun, which is what I want from a Marvel movie."

If "The Marvels" teaser did anything, it was get fans such as @Erica on board with a new big screen MCU adventure. "I haven't been this excited about an MCU movie in a while," they exclaim. "LET'S GOOO!!!" Similarly, @Emotional Damage loves the intensity of the film's premise, commenting that, "Hopefully the MCU gets back on track." Fans have plenty to be excited by with "The Marvels" teaser and there's sure to be more surprises in store when the film releases on November 10, 2023.
