The Mandalorian S3: Katee Sackhoff On The Din & Bo-Katan Love Scene We Never Got
Disney's "The Mandalorian" is many things, and one of those things is a love story — specifically, the story of how a loner bounty hunter named Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and a Force-sensitive foundling of a still-unnamed alien species named Grogu develop one of the most authentic father-son relationships on television.
What the show is not is a romantic love story, although it could have been. Certain fans have been rooting for Mando to have a romantic relationship. One candidate fans have proposed is Bo-Katan Kryze, the heir to House Kryze and one-time claimant to rule Mandalore. She's been an increasingly important character in Season 3.
Bo-Katan is played by Katee Sackhoff. In an interview with Kristian Harloff, Sackhoff was asked whether she ever had a discussion about a romantic relationship between the Mandalorian and Bo-Katan. She replied that while filming, she and Din Djarin's body double Brendan Wayne joked about their characters hooking up. Wayne pointed out that any sort of physical contact would be impossible, as their characters can't take off their helmets or armor, at least if they want to remain Mandalorians who follow the Way of Mandalore.
Naturally, this leads to a question: are romantic relationships between Mandalorians possible? It's complicated.
It's unlikely we'll see a Bo-Katan and Din Djarin romance any time soon
The main thing to remember about Mandalorians is that those who follow The Way also follow a rigid set of rules. The most familiar of these is the rule against removing their helmets in front of anyone.
Mandalorians are allowed to marry. Typically, Mandalorians can marry anyone once they turn 16, and it's expected to be a lifelong commitment. There's no known age restriction on marriage, so it's possible Bo-Katan and Din Djarin could eventually tie the knot. According to Mandalorian custom, when two Mandalorians marry, the spouse from the less powerful house takes their partner's name. In this case, Din Djarin would become a member of House Kryze.
The question of whether they could have a brief fling is murkier. For those Mandalorians who follow the Way, removing one's helmet in front of anyone is forbidden. Bo-Katan had already shown a willingness to reject the Way by frequently going without her helmet, but Din Djarin only removed his once, and only then during a highly emotional goodbye to his adopted son Grogu. Brendan Wayne's assessment that a hookup would only have complicated things is likely accurate.
Going forward, Bo-Katan could be a main character in "The Mandalorian" Season 4. Most likely that will involve the reconquest of Mandalore, but nothing rules out a Bo-Katan-Din Djarin romance.
