Succession S4 Episode 6: Why Roman Keeps Replaying That Video Edit Of Logan
Contains spoilers for "Succession" Season 4, Episode 6 — "Living+"
Logan Roy (Brian Cox) makes his ghosty return to "Succession" as Kendall (Jeremy Strong) unveils Waystar Royco's ambitious plans for the all-inclusive Living+ community. Shiv (Sarah Snook) continues sharpening her strategic moves on Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) as Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) attempts to find his way back to her. Meanwhile, Roman (Kieran Culkin) tackles the Hollywood film industry and makes more than one hasty decision to fire a powerful employee.
In the wake of Logan's sudden passing, the Roy kids continue scrambling over each other as they try to execute their next half-baked plan. Kendall and Roman make some effort to work together as co-CEOs, only to repeatedly act rashly without consulting each other. Shiv keeps her options open while also being consistently reminded that she can't trust her scheming brothers. As Roman gets a little too fire-happy in this episode, Kendall prepares an extravagant presentation for Living+ that recruits his dearly departed dad to help sell the pitch.
At the very end of the episode, Kendall sends his brother a crude video edit of their father, where he hurtfully mocks Roman. The edited version of Logan says Roman "always gets it wrong," which is a not-so-subtle comment on his business practices from his giddy older brother. It also embodies the guilt he feels for firing Gerri (J. Smith-Cameron) again without the instruction of his towering father.
Roman feels guilty about firing Gerri again
Gerri Kellman was spared her first termination after Logan Roy's untimely death, seemingly reversing the decision. However, Episode 6 sees Roman act of his own accord and fire Gerri himself. He feels she doesn't respect him and even wrongfully insists that she isn't good at her job. This is also tangled in the leftovers of their inappropriate relationship, where Roman sent Gerri a lewd photo of himself. In one instance, the image accidentally went to his father, which is even revisited in the first part of Kendall's harmful video edit.
Recently, Connor (Alan Ruck) sent Roman a nonconsensual image of their father's funeral-dressed corpse. This highlights his reluctance to accept his father's death which may also explain why he keeps replaying the cruel video. He's able to see his father alive again, and even though it's manipulated, it still tells him something his father would probably say. This move also refocuses Roman as he realizes he can't trust his overzealous brother and his unexpected behavior.
With this video, Kendall also weaponizes Roman's guilt for firing Gerri, which he immediately regrets. When he tells Kendall about the incident, he also adds that he wants someone to quickly reverse it, thereby exposing his true feelings for her. By replaying the video over and over, he's telling himself he always gets it wrong and reinforcing his remorse for letting Gerri go.
