Marvel Characters We Need To See In Spider-Man

The big reveal from Captain America: Civil War's March 2016 trailer is that Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, will participate in the title bout between the superheroes. His presence is news because, despite being a Marvel character, Sony has held the film rights to Spider-Man since the 1990s. That's why the webslinger hasn't appeared in any Marvel Studios movies up to this point. Even better, news hit shortly after the trailer that the agreement between Sony and Marvel Studios that allows Spider-Man to appear in Captain America: Civil War works both ways. Sony is also permitted to put some residents of the wider Marvel Universe in new Spider-Man movies. Without further ado, here are some of our picks from the Marvel-U to appear in the next few Spider-Man movies...

Daredevil

In the comics, Daredevil and Spider-Man have a close professional relationship. This makes sense given that they're both street-level crime fighters serving in New York City. The dark and brooding tone of Daredevil is a nice contrast with the levity of Spider-Man. The two almost have a relationship akin to Batman and Superman. Let's just hope their crossover doesn't end up like that Batman v Superman...

Iron Man

An appearance by Iron Man/Tony Stark in the form of Robert Downey Jr. seems likely given that the new trailer shows Spider-Man joining Stark's side in the Civil War conflict. Also, Iron Man is arguably the most popular and well-known of the Avengers team. What better way to introduce the wider Marvel Universe into the Spider-Man films than including him? Perhaps Stark can give the Peter Parker some piece of new technology to help in his crimefighting. Tony Stark's sense of humor and Peter Park's can compliment one another. We can easily envision a buddy movie between the two heroes.

Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin

Again, to reference the comics, Wilson Fisk is a huge villain...no pun intended. Spider-Man and the Kingpin regularly duke it out. The crime boss is not necessarily confined to just Daredevil, since the Kingpin actually made his debut in Spider-Man's comic books. There's even a video game for the Sega Genesis from the early 1990s called The Amazing Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin, proving how connected Spidey and the Kingpin really are. But can Vincent D'Onofrio bring his television gravitas as Wilson Fisk to the big screen?

Ant-Man

Aside from Iron Man, the Avenger that we'd most like to see in a new Spider-Man film is Ant-Man. Why? The two certainly have the eternal arachnid vs. insect dynamic. That being said, we envision another buddy-cop kind of movie with the two quipster characters. Imagine how fun it would be if Peter Parker was somehow shrunk to Ant-Man's diminutive size and had to fight crime that way?

Nick Fury

We can see Nick Fury recruiting Spider-Man for some mission in a newly-launched S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. Back in 2004, there was a neat comic book mini-series called Secret War. In it, Fury recruits Spider-Man and many of the Avengers to engage in, you guessed it, a covert operation after the U.S. government denies him. This storyline could also serve as a basis for an Avengers movie when that band manages to get back together after the conclusion Civil War.

She-Hulk

Now let's venture into uncharted waters. Marvel characters who have yet to appear onscreen. Jennifer Walters is a successful lawyer who occasionally transforms into a bulkier, green version of herself called She-Hulk...for comic book reasons. Similar to Peter Parker, she struggles to find a balance between her professional life and her superhero duties. With so much in common, it'd be great to see the two team-up in a Spider-Man movie. Perhaps she can defend Peter Parker as his attorney? Do we predict a green-hued romance blooming? Only our fan fiction knows for sure.

Moon Knight

Moon Knight is Marvel's not-so-subtle answer to DC's Batman. Marc Spector was a globetrotting mercenary who was resurrected by an Egyptian god and imbued with improved reflexes, enhanced strength, and endurance at night. A typical Saturday for most of us, right? Afterward he became the anti-hero, Moon Knight. How great will it be to see Spider-Man duking it out with Moon Knight on the rooftops of New York City? There have been rumors of Moon Knight getting his own Netflix series. What better way to introduce Moon Knight to audiences than as a Spider-Man antagonist? Marvel could do this in a way that's similar to how they re-introduced The Punisher in season 2 of Daredevil.

No matter who shows up in the new Spider-Man flicks, we can't wait to finally see Spider-Man hanging out with the rest of the Marvel movie crew. Now, if only we can get the X-Men and Fantastic Four back into the fold from 20th Century Fox...
