Fast X Director Promises Justice For Han Will Come Thanks To An Epic 'Battle Royale'
"Fast X" director Louis Leterrier promises there will be justice for Han in the upcoming sequel. After Han (Sung Kang) returned to life –- he actually faked his death -– in 2021's "F9: The Fast Saga," fans couldn't wait for him to get his revenge on Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham). Shaw, coming off his own successful spinoff with "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw," wasn't a part of the team in "F9" despite his babyface turn in "The Fate of the Furious." However, fans were delighted to see Shaw return in the mid-credits scene for "F9," which teased a showdown between Han and the sarcastic Brit.
Leterrier actually revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the grudge match will be an all-out "battle royale." He said of the "Fast X" Han and Shaw fight scene, "I wanted this moment to be so special. That's something I was missing [in the last movie]. They are mortal enemies and it was teased at the end of the last one ... It's really fun and special."
The showdown between Han and Shaw is a long time coming
In "Fast & Furious 6," fan-favorite character Han, who himself debuted in the series in "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," was seemingly killed in a car explosion by Deckard Shaw. Jason Statham made a surprise cameo in the after-credits scene in that movie, setting up the events of "Furious 7." Deckard Shaw's act of revenge came after the Furious Family put Owen Shaw (Luke Evans), Deckard's brother, into a coma after he wreaked havoc all across the UK in the sixth film. In "F9," Han was shown having escaped the explosion and faked his own death to become a secret agent and to heal from his girlfriend Gisele's (Gal Gadot) supposed death.
Now, even though Deckard Shaw is on the side of the good guys, Han still has unfinished business with the former foe in "Fast X." During an exclusive Entertainment Weekly sneak peek, Han is shown arriving at Shaw's place with Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris), and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) for their faceoff. After Han reaches for one of his trusty snacks in his jacket pocket, the brawl begins. Audiences will be able to see the fight go down when "Fast X" hits theaters on May 19.
