What's The Song In The Walking Dead: Dead City's Trailer?

Facing off against a singular zombie can range from a walk in the park to a terrifying encounter depending on one's experience. However, a group of zombies is an entirely different monster altogether, which is probably why cities quickly became some of the most dangerous locations in "The Walking Dead" franchise. Of course, undead hordes take center stage in the recently released trailer for the latest spin-off, "The Walking Dead: Dead City."

The trailer sees Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) travel to New York City (specifically Manhattan), and they are not only greeted by scores of animated corpses but different groups of survivors. Like other shows in "The Walking Dead" universe, some factions may just be people trying to live, while others might be tyrants who wish to impose their will on others.

Throughout the trailer for "The Walking Dead: Dead City," a classic song with an upbeat tune plays, and it is none other than "Gimme Danger" by The Stooges. The Stooges' lead singer is the iconic Iggy Pop, which is probably why the song might seem quite familiar to some. Originally released on the 1973 album "Raw Power," "Gimme Danger" is definitely a perfect choice to set the tone of the upcoming spin-off.

The guitarist for The Stooges calls Gimme Danger an epic song

Although The Stooges' album "Raw Power" and their song "Gimme Danger" failed to make an immediate impression on mainstream music, many artists later credited the collection of songs as a tremendous influence, like Kurt Cobain, Henry Rollins, Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe, and John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. As noted by the Los Angeles Times, "Raw Power" only charted for three weeks, and reached a high water mark of 183 on the Top 200.

Speaking with Louder Sound, The Stooges' guitarist James Williamson was asked if the song "Raw Power" on the titular album was his favorite, and he replied, "I don't know. I think that's certainly a good one. 'Search And Destroy' has now become a classic song, and I think 'Gimme Danger' is kind of an epic song, if you will. I like so many of them."

However, as mentioned earlier, "Raw Power" quickly earned a reputation for itself, which is probably why "Gimme Danger" was selected as the music for the trailer for "The Walking Dead: Dead City." Not only is "Gimme Danger" a great backdrop for Negan and Maggie as they figure out how to navigate this hostile and scary new environment, but it also highlights how much has changed; the trailer features a whole slew of new zombie variants, with one almost appearing to be a rat-king like entity, and another seemingly possessing parkour skills. If danger is what they want in "The Walking Dead: Dead City," then danger is what they shall have.
