Deathstroke Solo Movie Is Still In The Works, Says Joe Manganiello
Deathstroke is most definitely not dead.
After popping up as Deathstroke (otherwise known as Slade Wilson in the DC Comics world) during a post-credits scene in 2018's Justice League, Joe Manganiello has time and again noted a Deathstroke solo movie is alive and kicking. But when Warner Bros. and DC Films didn't make a peep about it during San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend (hey, they were busy with Aquaman and Shazam!), a few fans wondered whether the planned film was still in development and if it would actually see the light of day.
Speaking with MTV correspondent Josh Horowitz (via Twitter), Manganiello again assured the world that it will — but he can't say anything else about it.
"I say, 'It's in the works,' because it is and there's nothing further that I can say without speaking out of school, because I'm part of a team. I'm a part of a locker room — you don't talk outside the locker room," said Manganiello. "But all I can say is, for the hardcore fans, it's in the works. They want the character to happen, it's just when he happens."
Manganiello added that the minds behind the film just really want to get things right with the Deathstroke movie. "Everyone's committed to that," he stated.
Manganiello's Deathstroke was meant to make another appearance in the Worlds of DC through the Ben Affleck-starring Batman solo movie – but after Affleck dropped out as director and Matt Reeves took his place, the story took a turn in a different, apparently Deathstroke-lacking direction.
Even when faced with so many indefinites, it seems Manganiello is maintaining a sunny disposition and remaining positive about what the future holds for his character. And if anyone doubts Manganiello's commitment to ensuring Deathstroke doesn't get trapped in development hell, just remember that he previously spent six months writing backstory for Deathstroke that turned into a 16-page treatment. Yeah, that's love.
