Whatever Happened To HavenLock After Shark Tank?
"Shark Tank" Season 10, Episode 18 features entrepreneurs Alex Bertelli and Clay Banks and their innovative home security product HavenLock. As the pair explain to the Sharks, HavenLock is different from the usual security bar in that it's a wedge that fits under the door. Unlocked, the door opens and closes normally, but when activated via Bluetooth or the device's included control fob, it raises and locks the door up tight and can alert users to any intrusion attempts.
The most memorable aspect of their pitch was Bertelli's attempt to demonstrate the ease with which a traditional deadbolted door can be kicked in by an intruder, something that ended up being a little harder than expected when he tried it in front of the Sharks. Bertelli and Banks were looking for a buy-in of $500,000 for a 6% stake in HavenLock, an offer that none of the Sharks were interested in taking them up on. But, as is the case for many of the products that have been featured on "Shark Tank" over the years, that was far from the end of the HavenLock story.
As reported by WKRN, the exposure HavenLock received from "Shark Tank" led to a bump in the product's visibility that has kept it going strong today. That's something that has happened for many products featured on the show, including these everyday things you didn't know got their start on "Shark Tank."
The HavenLock is now the Haven Lockdown
Per the product's official site, the HavenLock is now the Haven Lockdown, but the company appears to be offering the same type of services.
Interestingly, Alex Bertelli and Clay Banks reportedly saw a new opportunity for their business come about in the space between their "Shark Tank" episode being filmed and when it actually aired. According to WKRN, they partnered with pest control company Terminix to sell the product directly to consumers. Additionally, the product is not only still available to purchase on their website, but the company also continues to do deals with schools across the country to help with classroom lockdowns. In 2023, they even received a SAFETY (Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies) Act Designation from the Department of Homeland Security, according to AP.
The HavenLock pitch also experienced an afterlife in the "Shark Tank" universe. Thanks to the infamous door-kicking mishap, the product (or, more accurately, the pitch for the product) made it onto the "Greatest of All Time Special" that aired in February of 2020. As you can see in the clip, the Sharks seemed to love the pitch even if they didn't end up buying into the business.
Now, the Haven Lockdown is a successful home security product even without any investment from the Sharks, although its extremely memorable and funny pitch on the show certainly didn't hurt it. It just goes to show that even ostensible failures can ultimately produce success, which has to be one of the core concepts behind "Shark Tank."
