Could Captain America: New World Order Involve A Hulk Vs. Juggernaut Fight?
While Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) held down the Avengers through the first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has since retired and handed the mantle to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). After his debut on the Disney+ original series "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," Wilson's Captain America is primed to get his own solo outing in a new film bearing a potentially very telling title, "Captain America: New World Order."
While we don't have much information on the breakdown of the film's plot, there are a few things we do know, thanks to the film's title and the collection of characters reuniting. The appearances of General Thaddeus E. "Thunderbolt" Ross (Harrison Ford, taking over for the late William Hurt), Betty Ross (Liv Tyler), and Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson) suggest that "New World Order" will not only adapt a story from a popular "Incredible Hulk" comic book but may also feature a Marvel big bad from the "X-Men" franchise, Juggernaut.
New World Order is an Incredible Hulk story
In making a film starring the Avenger Captain America, you would think they would choose a story from his long-running comic presence. Instead, Marvel may have chosen to adapt a story from "Incredible Hulk" #403, which came out in March 1993. The title "New World Order" may refer to the organization debuting in that issue, where Red Skull pulls together a group of villains to — what else? — take over the world.
In the issue, Bruce Banner investigates the New World Order and comes face-to-face with Juggernaut, who attacks him and takes him prisoner. By the time the Avengers come along, the group has manipulated the Hulk to attack them and become a distraction before Red Skull escapes. While the organization disappears, it could very well become a new replacement for the now-defunct Hydra in the MCU.
Of course, there are sure to be some changes made to the storyline if it is, in fact, pulled from the comics. For one thing, the MCU's Red Skull (Ross Marquand) was last seen acting as a sort of guide to those seeking the Soul Stone all the way on Vormir. Many storytelling wheels would need to be greased for him to return. More likely, Samuel Stern's the Leader could make his long-awaited return to the MCU and take the reins of the New World Order. But there is one thing from the comic we hope they leave in place.
Juggernaut could be ready to make his MCU debut
While "Deadpool 3" could introduce Ryan Reynolds' version of the character and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine into the MCU, "Captain America: New World Order" could pull another character from the "X-Men" comics and debut him in the franchise. Juggernaut showing up in the MCU could be one more step toward the X-Men finally making their presence known before the end of the next phase.
Juggernaut is a formidable villain for the Hulk in the comics, and with all the "Hulk" characters set to make a return, we can at least hope for a live-action rematch. "Deadpool 2" includes the villain in a significant upgrade from the character's appearance in "X-Men: The Last Stand," played by Vinnie Jones. Whether or not the "Deadpool 2" version is set to appear is anyone's guess, but if there were any worry that the film wouldn't hold any mammoth-sized superhero battle action, it would be gone the moment you see these two behemoths clash on-screen.
