Who Are The Villains In TMNT: Mutant Mayhem?
While the "TMNT" franchise has never really gone away, it looks like it's set to return bigger and better than ever with "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem." Not only does the movie have an insanely star-studded cast of actors behind its many iconic characters, but it also has incredible animation that seems to be tapped into the overall fun vibe of the cartoons.
Still, the latest trailer showed off a ton of new characters as the villains of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" were introduced. Though fans will likely recognize mainstays like Bebop (Seth Rogen) and Rocksteady (John Cena), there are a whole host of others who step into the light midway through the new trailer as well.
For instance, while Genghis Frog (Hannibal Burress) and Leatherhead (Rose Byrne) have been seen as antagonists to the Turtles in the past, they have also become allies of the four heroes. This means that the mutated frog and alligator, respectively, might be early antagonists who turn into allies or that they could be friends to the boys in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" from the start. The same goes for Mondo Gecko (Paul Rudd), a skateboarding gecko who is also set to appear.
There are plenty of characters to unpack in Mutant Mayhem
It's also worth noting that in the comic books and cartoons, Bebop and Rocksteady are primarily seen as henchmen (hench mammals? hench mutants?) for the central villain, Shredder, who is not set to appear in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem." This means that their origins as members of the Foot Clan who volunteered to be experimented on in order to defeat the Turtles could be altered here.
As for other villains of note, Superfly (Ice Cube) looks like he's leading the other mutants in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem." It's important to mention that this character is actually a new addition to the franchise and is not the scientist Baxter Stockman (Giancarlo Esposito), a regular antagonist of the Turtles who will also be appearing in the film.
Wingnut (Natasia Demetriou), a bat-based villain, and a manta ray villain called Ray Fillet (Post Malone) will also be showing up in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem." Finally, Cynthia Ultrom (Maya Rudolph) looks to be of the same alien race as well-known Turtles antagonist Krang, which likely means she will be an antagonist.
Either way, it certainly looks like "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" will not be lacking characters to mine for storytelling and action scenes in the new film. Fans who are anxious to sample the ooze for themselves can check out the movie when it arrives in theaters on August 2nd, 2023.
