Could Across The Spider-Verse Already Feature Venom In The Spider Society?
Contains spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse"
It's been mentioned ad nauseam at this point that "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" ups the ante in practically every way from its predecessor. The animation is more ambitious, the storyline's expansive, and there are literally hundreds of Spider-People for Miles Morales to interact with. There's plenty for long-time Spider-Man fans to enjoy, particularly in the sequence where Miles goes to the central hub where there are plenty of recognizable variants of the Web-Head, implying any version fans have seen before could be there.
That includes a version of Spidey attached to the Venom symbiote, giving him the infamous black suit. In fact, as Lyla offers a presentation on the Spider-Verse, various scenes of Canon Events in Spidey history are featured, such as the death of Uncle Ben and Spider-Man ripping away at the symbiote suit. As such, it's possible the Spider-Society currently contains a version of Spider-Man who's equipped with the Venom symbiote, which will eventually transfer to Eddie Brock. Even though we don't see Symbiote Spidey in the epic chase sequence, it's possible the scene sets up a future plot point for Miles to contend with.
Could Miles fight Venom at some point?
The sequence where Lyla explains Canon Events basically plays as a "Best Of" montage of iconic Spider-Man moments. There are even scenes of both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men mourning the deaths of their respective Uncle Bens. Spider-Man's symbiote suit has become one of the most recognizable components of the character's canon. In fact, a single page featuring the first comic book appearance of Spider-Man's black suit sold at auction in 2022 to the tune of USD 3.36 million. It's a significant piece of Spider-Man lore, and with that single feature in "Across the Spider-Verse," there's a real possibility Miles could have to contend with Venom in a future movie.
After all, if symbiote suit Spider-Man is part of the Spider-Society, that means Venom is out there, regularly getting exposed to all kinds of Spider-People. If Miles is responsible for saving the multiverse in a future installment, it wouldn't be out of the question for Venom to seek Miles out, seeing him as a worthy challenger, and with the film's unique art style, it would be a real treat to see Venom in all his gooey glory.
Granted, that would likely only happen if the franchise continues after "Beyond the Spider-Verse." That movie will already have plenty of plot points to pick up from "Across the Spider-Verse," and throwing Venom in there may come across as superfluous. For now, fans can simply enjoy the ride with "Across the Spider-Verse" playing in theaters.
