John Wick: Chapter 4 Brings The Character's Kill Count To An Eye-Popping Level
Since its inception nearly a decade ago, the "John Wick" saga has transformed from the little action flick that could into one of the best-loved, best-reviewed, and most commercially viable franchises in all of Hollywood. And it's crazy to think it all began with the rather straightforward tale of the titular killer (played with fevered, sometimes tender-hearted menace by Keanu Reeves) seeking vengeance for his dog.
That egregious act of senseless violence has since beget more bloodshed and brutality than anyone might've imagined when it ultimately went down. Indeed, Wick's trail of blood now spans a total of four bone-shattering, blood-spattered features. And with each new addition to the franchise, it has gotten more and more difficult to keep track of just how many foes the fearsome Wick has dispatched en route to getting himself out from under the thumb of the nefarious High Table.
Thankfully, the folks at Gaming Bible have been keeping a close tally on John Wick's kill count over the franchise's run. And according to them, the number currently rests at a mind-boggling 439 kills. That staggering number, of course, doesn't even account for all the people he killed before the events of "John Wick." And in a truly hilarious bit of bloody irony, that body count now actually outnumbers the total amount of words the character reportedly speaks in the recently released "John Wick: Chapter 4."
John Wick may not be done killing just yet
Irony aside, you might be wondering exactly how those numbers actually break down over the course of the four "John Wick" offerings. While Gaming Bible doesn't explicitly lay out what they consider a confirmed kill in the franchise — presumably any man, woman, or beast Mr. Wick has dropped along the way — they have kept an updated count for each film in the franchise. And according to the site, the count shakes out with Wick killing 77 people in "John Wick," 128 in "John Wick: Chapter 2," and 94 more in "John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum." Fittingly, "John Wick: Chapter 4" boasts the highest kill count of the franchise, with Gaming Bible estimating that Wick slays a total of 140 people in the action epic, bringing the total number of kills to 439.
If you've seen "Chapter 4," you know the final moments of the film appeared to put an official end to Mr. Wick's blood-soaked path to something resembling redemption. But the overwhelming success of "John Wick: Chapter 4" has indeed left the door cracked for some sort of franchise return, with Lionsgate brass claiming "Chapter 5" is already in the early stages of production. However, even if Wick doesn't come back for a fifth feature, he still may still have some killing ahead of him, with Reeves already slated to turn up in the Wick-verse spinoff "Ballerina." So it might be wise not to chisel that kill count in stone just yet.
