Daredevil Season 3 Trailer Teases Matt Murdock's Struggle, Introduces New Villain
Matt Murdock is stuck between a rock, a hard place, and a nefarious new villain in the official full-length trailer for Daredevil season 3.
Netflix dropped the new look at the series on Thursday, bringing fans back to Hell's Kitchen, reacquainting viewers with the dangers that swirl through the streets of the New York neighborhood, revealing Matt's (Charlie Cox) grim outlook on life, and adding a malicious malefactor to the mix.
Following the chaotic, cliffhanger-y events of the season 2 finale, during which Matt revealed to his ex-girlfriend Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) that he is Daredevil, he went completely off the grid, missing from the world he was once so immersed in. Now, months later, he has resurfaced a changed man — with a brand-new disposition, a fresh costume, and more big bads to battle.
"I used to listen to people asking for help. That's what I was trying to do, is help people. But I was fooling myself," Matt says in the trailer. "Darkness only responds to darkness."
Donning an all-black get-up and a mask that covers half his face, the laywer-by-day, vigilante-by-night is seen punching out crooks in a parking garage and declaring himself as Daredevil. But he'll need more than just a new 'fit and a feisty attitude to fend off Wilson "Kingpin" Fisk, Matt's archenemy who makes his way out of prison and embarks on a mission to exact his revenge on Daredevil. The moment he realizes Fisk is a free man, Matt is faced with a difficult choice: hide from everyone and everything around him, or embrace his hero identity.
It's a decision Matt will have to make quite quickly, as another threat emerges: a mysterious man who masquerades as Daredevil, making the people of Hell's Kitchen believe that he's unhinged, murderous, and an enemy of the public. The trailer doesn't explicitly reveal who exactly the copycat combatant is, but it's clear that he's none other than Bullseye — the psychopathic assassin who has a vendetta against Daredevil and historically has been, ahem, not so nice to the Hell's Kitchen hero.
According to ComicBook.com, Netflix confirmed shortly after releasing the Daredevil season 3 trailer that Wilson Bethel is on board to play Bullseye, otherwise known as Benjamin Poindexter.
With not one but two villains on the prowl to seriously screw up Matt's life, the third season of Daredevil will be bigger, bolder, and more blood-pumpingly intense than ever before. Catch the new season on Netflix on October 19.
