Chicago PD's Marina Squerciati Reunites With Two Retired Med Stars
Over the years, numerous actors have left the "One Chicago" franchise. Indeed, while "Chicago P.D.," "Chicago Med," and "Chicago Fire" have all held onto some of their stars, the three shows have each said hello and goodbye to plenty of cast members throughout their time on the air. However, that doesn't mean that the franchise's remaining actors haven't stayed close friends with some of their former "One Chicago" co-stars. On the contrary, the opposite seems to be true.
Earlier this year, "Chicago P.D." star Marina Squerciati reunited with several of her "Chicago Med" friends during the still-ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. A few weeks later, Squerciati again took to Instagram to celebrate a reunion with two former "One Chicago" co-stars. The actor specifically posted a photo with retired "Chicago Med" stars Torrey DeVitto and Yaya DaCosta, who attended New York Fashion Week with her. In the same post, Squerciati, who has played Kim Burgess on "Chicago P.D." since 2014, also shared a photo of just her and DeVitto smiling together.
"We came, we saw, we were in bed by 9PM because heels hurt + these ladies needed pizzas," the "Chicago P.D." star wrote in her playful caption for the post. Her New York Fashion Week adventure, notably, marks the second time this fall that Squerciati has reunited with DeVitto, who famously wrapped up her six-season run as Natalie Manning on "Chicago Med" in 2021. DeVitto briefly reprised her role as the character again earlier this year in the "Chicago Med" Season 8 finale.
The One Chicago franchise has been on hiatus since May
It's been well over two years since Torrey DeVitto was a recurring figure in the "One Chicago" franchise and nearly a year since Yaya DaCosta made her final appearance to date as her longtime "Chicago Med" character, April Sexton. They're not the only actors that "One Chicago" fans have had to go a while without seeing on their TV screens, though. New episodes of "Chicago P.D.," "Chicago Med," and "Chicago Fire" have been delayed indefinitely due to this year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
The former labor effort was finally resolved in late September, but its commencement in early May prevented any new "One Chicago" scripts from being written in time for the franchise's usual fall return window. While the WGA's strike has ended, SAG-AFTRA's strike is still ongoing. Unfortunately, considering that negotiations between the Screen Actors Guild and Hollywood's major studios broke down recently, it's unclear when the former's months-long labor effort will conclude.
That means fans still don't know when the current cast members of "Chicago P.D.," "Chicago Med," and "Chicago Fire," including Marina Squerciati, will be able to start filming new episodes of their respective shows. With that in mind, it's worth noting that Squerciati's previous reunion post with DeVitto and their fellow "One Chicago" co-star, Nick Gehlfuss, was actually a show of support from all three performers for the SAG-AFTRA strike.
As frustrating as this year's TV delays undoubtedly have been and will continue to be for "One Chicago" fans, they can at least take comfort in knowing that the franchise's actors are still just as tight-knit as they've ever been. Marina Squerciati has made that very clear this fall.
