Zombieland: Double Tap Poster Teases Mass Chaos In The U.S. Capital
The wait continues for an official Zombieland: Double Tap trailer, but a first look at the film's poster has offered a few hints as to what's in store for Witchita (Emma Stone), Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) in the long-awaited sequel.
Posted to the official Zombieland: Double Tap Instagram page, the one-sheet provides a glimpse at what appears to be a would-be road map for the adventure our core four characters will embark on. And if that map is to be believed, at least some of the undead chaos in the film will indeed unfold in the streets of our nation's capital.
For fans of Ruben Fleischer's original Zombieland, it's been a decade-long wait to see the "heroes" of the 2009 action-comedy-horror hybrid reunited on the big screen. When last we saw the snarky, make-shift family, they'd just survived a brutal attack from an undead horde in the middle of an amusement park. They'd also agreed to break some of their sacred rules for surviving the zombie apocalypse by banding together and riding off into the sunset, unsure of what the perilous road ahead may bring.
While the fateful decision to partner up will almost certainly lead the group to conjure a few new survival tips for the sequel, little is known of the plot for Double Tap. The official synopsis of the film does, however, tell us that road led the group to an unknown location in "America's Heartland." It also details that the crew will be facing off against an evolved band of zombies foes, and that they won't be alone in their fight, with Zoey Deutch, Rosario Dawson, Luke Wilson, and Thomas Middleditch set to join the fray.
Also lined up to have some undead fun in Zombieland: Double Tap are Bill Murray (presumably reprising his role from that scene-stealing Zombieland cameo), and his old Ghostbusters co-star Dan Akroyd, who haven't appeared on screen together since 1989's ill-fated Ghostbusters 2. No word yet on what sort of roles Murray and Akroyd will play in the sequel, but we can imagine the legendary duo will get their share of kicks within the apocalyptic landscape.
As for what we can glean about Double Tap from the shiny new road map of a poster, well, that may or may not be L.A.'s Capitol Records building at the top, and it's a little bit unclear exactly what city that is at the bottom. All we can say with any kind of conviction is that the road will eventually take the protagonists to Washington D.C. — and may see our band of survivors hopping everything from monster trucks and Cadillacs to ice cream trucks and a stretch limo en route to the hallowed grounds of the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and, of course, the White House.
Even if we don't know much about the plot for Zombieland 2, the fact that some of the story takes place in D.C. means Fleischer (who has returned to the director's chair for Double Tap) and co. will likely have ample opportunity to offer a few pointed thoughts regarding the current state of the U.S. government, though we certainly couldn't say who (or even what) might be occupying the presidential quarters in the Zombieland cineverse.
Hopefully, we'll get a glimpse of the chaos to come via a Zombieland: Double Tap trailer in the near future. Even if we have to wait a little longer for that footage, Zombieland fans can take heart knowing that the agonizing wait for the sequel is almost over. Zombieland 2: Double Tap is currently slated to hit theaters on October 18. Until then, have fun trying to dissect all the images in the slick little poster below.
