Marvel's Runaways Season 3 To Feature Cloak & Dagger Crossover
Anything the DCEU can do, Marvel can do, too.
Marvel has announced (via a press release and an official video, displayed above) that the upcoming third season of the Hulu series Marvel's Runaways will feature a crossover with Marvel's Cloak & Dagger.
The mash-up episode is set to arrive on Hulu on December 13, when Marvel's Runaways unleashes all 10 installments of its third season. This is right around the time that the Arrowverse crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths will begin.
Jeph Loeb, Marvel Television president and executive producer of Runaways and Cloak & Dagger, said of the impending crossover, "It's so fun being able to do something that revels in the Mighty Marvel Manner! Having these young heroes crossover allows fans of both shows to see the adventure everyone has been waiting for and we've only hinted at."
The folks at the House of Heroes and Hulu are keeping details under tight wraps, so we can't say for certain how the lives of the teen misfits known as the Runaways will collide with those of Tyrone Johnson (a.k.a. Cloak) and Tandy Bowen (a.k.a. Dagger). Marvel's Runaways season 3 will see Alex Wilder (Rhenzy Feliz), Nico Minoru (Lyrica Okano), and Molly Hayes Hernandez (Allegra Acosta) searching for their captured fellow Runaways Karolina Dean (Virginia Gardner), Gert Yorks (Ariela Barer), and Chase Stein (Gregg Sulkin) — all while continuing to avoid the forces of the Pride, the coalition of criminals of which they're parents are members. Another danger lurks ahead in the form of an "unstoppable enemy" that has its sights set on Karolina's mother Leslie Ellerh Dean (Annie Wersching) and the child she carries. The Runaways venture into a mysterious realm in which the enemy's ruler, the immortal sorceress Morgan le Fay (Elizabeth Hurley), resides. As it turns out, Morgan is far more sinister than any big bad the Runaways have faced before. Gulp.
Taking that into account, one could surmise that the Runaways will ring up Cloak (played by Aubrey Joseph), who can engulf others in darkness and transport them using the the Darkforce Dimension, and Dagger (played by Olivia Holt), who can emit daggers of light, to ask for their help in defeating Morgan le Fay. Teaming up with the Runaways wouldn't be an impossible feat for Cloak and Dagger, as the pair of teen heroes were last seen at the end of season 2 leaving New Orleans to head to other parts of the U.S. and help those in danger. The Runaways are about to square off with their biggest, baddest opponent yet, and Cloak and Dagger just might be the back-up they need.
Like we mentioned earlier, the crossover between Marvel's Runaways and Marvel's Cloak & Dagger will play out while the world is experiencing (or getting ready to experience) the Crisis on Infinite Earths event that brings together Arrow, Supergirl, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and The Flash. Crisis on Infinite Earths will span five episodes across two months, with the first episode airing in December. It seems like a super-smart tactic on Marvel Television's part to have its own crossover during this time, as it gives Marvel fans something to be excited for and doesn't let competitor Warner Bros. Television (responsible for the DCEU television series) have all the glory.
What will happen on the upcoming superhero crossover is anyone's guess, though we're confident viewers are in for a wild ride. Superheroes, villains, high stakes, and dangerous missions involving a vigilante group and a dynamic duo? There's not much more you could ask for.
Marvel's Runaways season 3 hits Hulu on December 13.
