The Boys Season 2 Teaser Trailer Is Extremely Revealing
On July 26, 2019 all eight episodes of the Amazon Prime series The Boys were released. The show, an adaptation of the comic book created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, focuses on Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and his band of misfits as they work to expose the truth about a seriously sinister group of superheroes, The Seven, led by evil Superman Homelander (Antony Starr).
That first season of The Boys features murder by super speed, murder by butt explosion, murder by super baby laser vision — just a whole lot of very elaborate deaths, really. To top it all off, it ends with the revelation that Butcher's wife Becca (Shantel VanSanten), long thought to be dead, is not only alive, but also has a son — Homelander's son, to be exact.
In short, it's a pretty packed eight episodes of murders, assaults, super religions, and surprise babies. Today, a new teaser trailer dropped to let everyone know that The Boys will not be letting up when its second season releases September 4, 2020.
The biggest moments from the Boys season 2 teaser
With Vought International VP Madelynn Stillwell (Elisabeth Shue) dead and The Boys already fugitives, the teaser trailer for The Boys season 2, begins on how desperate our heroes are. Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tom Capon), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) are all alone and on the run. Butcher is MIA, and Homelander is back with The Seven, which appears to include The Deep (Chace Crawford), who had been removed from the team last season.
Don't you worry, though! It isn't long before Butcher returns with a plan to fight back. The plan is not officially revealed in the trailer, but based on visuals alone, it appears to involve heads exploding, heads being shot off by laser beams, heads being decapitated, and Butcher crawling out of the dead carcass of a shark.
There are two other major moments of note for the trailer: The dog and the new superhero-slash-villain. The dog is Terror, Butcher's trusty companion in The Boys comic book, who hasn't really made an appearance on the show up to now. According to a Collider interview with showrunner Eric Kripke, however, despite the challenges of working with animals, Terror "does come out of retirement for one more mission with Butcher, and so we can at least put Butcher with Terror for one big episode."
The other major moment is the first appearance of a new member of The Seven, Stormfront (Aya Cash). In the comics, Stormfront was a man — and a Nazi! Considering the one person we see Stormfront attack in the trailer is Kimiko, it seems likely she'll still be pretty racist. Yes, The Boys fans, there's always a way to make The Seven even more despicable.
The first three episodes of The Boys season 2 will be available on Amazon Prime beginning September 4, 2020, with one new episode dropping each week after that.
