We Finally Know When The Walking Dead: World Beyond Will Premiere
The end of the world was their beginning.
A brand-new trailer for the upcoming Walking Dead spin-off series The Walking Dead: World Beyond has finally arrived, and it reveals what everyone has been longing to learn: when the show will premiere on AMC. Fans can mark their calendars to catch World Beyond on Sunday, October 4, 2020.
Those keeping up with all the news coming out of San Diego Comic-Con@Home, where the Walking Dead: World Beyond trailer was revealed and the debut date confirmed, will understand the significance of World Beyond airing its first episode on that day. The long-awaited season 10 "finale" of the flagship Walking Dead series, which is technically a special episode since episode 15 served as the season-ending installment after episode 16 couldn't be finished on time, is set to premiere on October 4, 2020 as well. That episode will premiere at 9 PM ET on AMC, and the first-ever episode of The Walking Dead: World Beyond will air immediately after, at 10 PM ET.
How The Walking Dead: World Beyond will be different than other Walking Dead properties
Just because The Walking Dead: World Beyond exists within the same universe as the original series, and just because it will debut directly after an episode of the OG show, doesn't mean that it will be uninspired, predictable, boring, or grim. It'll be the exact opposite, in fact, unlike anything that fans have seen in the overarching Walking Dead television franchise thus far.
Set after the events of The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond centers on a group of teenagers who are part of the first generation of children to come of age after the zombie apocalypse ravaged the world and changed humanity forever. There's Hope (Alexa Mansour), Elton (Nicolas Cantu as Elton), Silas (Hal Cumpston), Iris (Aliyah Royale), Huck (Annet Mahendru), Felix (Nico Tortorella), Elizabeth (Julia Ormond), and more — teens with unique dreams, desires, hopes, and fears. What they all share, though, is a yearning to go out into the "big, beautiful world" and battle against the walkers in hopes that they can be the "first generation" to thrive post-apocalypse.
However, the fight won't be easily won, and will impact the teens in different ways. Unlike other Walking Dead properties, the largely hopeful The Walking Dead: World Beyond will primarily explore what it's like living as a young person in such a tumultuous time. But, as would be the outcome for anyone involved in such an endeavor, some World Beyond characters will falter and grow cold as they attempt to mature and form their own identity. As the synopsis for the series promises, "Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever — grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad."
Tune into the premiere episode of The Walking Dead: World Beyond on Sunday, October 4 at 10 PM ET on AMC.
