The Epic Utopia Scene You Didn't Get To See
Utopia dropped its first season on Amazon Prime on September 25, and the jaw-dropping conspiracy thriller quickly wrapped viewers up in its world. The show, based on a British series of the same name and adapted by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn, finds a group of geeks on a quest to track down a fabled comic book called Utopia that may predict upcoming horrific events. They soon realize, however, that they've found themselves in the crosshairs of a cabal of influential people with malevolent plans to make the world more dystopia than utopia. They must work together with a woman who may very well be the inspiration for the main character of Utopia to get to the bottom of the mystery, save their own lives, and possibly save the world.
Those who have already binged the series are no doubt eager for more, thanks to the shocking cliffhanger that ended season 1. While there's still no news on when (or if) season 2 will premiere, Amazon Prime did give fans of the show a little treat during a panel at New York Comic Con. The streamer dropped an incredible deleted scene that is full of the series' signature thrills, double-crosses, and WTF moments.
Here's what you need to know about this harrowing scene that didn't make it into season 1 of Utopia.
Utopia's deleted scene features a comic deal gone awry
According to a PR email obtained by Looper, the deleted scene comes from the first season's penultimate episode. In it, we see Becky (Ashleigh LaThrop) visiting a young, unnerving, and very wealthy man, who is willing to buy the prophetic comic Utopia from her in exchange for a bag of fun pills. The deal falls through when Becky realizes the collector plans to keep the ultra-rare comic behind glass in a private display room, and that her action would constitute a major betrayal of her friends. She leaves his house, but on the way out, gets an idea when she notices some extremely dope sports cars parked in the driveway.
Becky steals one of the cars and barrels down the highway, but it's not long before the man gives chase. It looks like he's about to catch up with her and knock her off the road when another car comes out of nowhere and T-bones the man. It's Jessica (Sasha Lane), arriving in the nick of time. After confirming that Becky didn't end up betraying the group, Jessica dispatches the man, and the two leave.
While it isn't quite the same as new episodes, this exhilarating deleted scene will hopefully make the wait for more Utopia a little easier.
