Fans Are Freaking Out Over Jared Leto's Joker Being In The Snyder Cut
You either die a villain or live long enough to see yourself ... still a villain.
After years of petitions and demands, fans of Zack Snyder finally got the news they'd been waiting for when Warner Bros. announced they'd officially be releasing the Snyder Cut of Justice League. Audiences got a version of the movie in 2017, but the general consensus among critics was that it wasn't much to write home about. Ever since the film was released, a group of dedicated fans has believed there must be a better version of Justice League out there. Surely the movie we got wasn't really what Zack Snyder had envisioned before a personal tragedy forced him to step away, and Joss Whedon stepped in to finish the job.
Warner Bros. has since given Snyder the green light to conduct reshoots to see his true vision brought to life. A lot of exciting details have already emerged concerning the new direction Snyder is taking his version of Justice League, including the emphasis on making Darkseid the true villain of the film. In case seeing the ruler of Apokalips wasn't enough for comic book fans, we officially have confirmation of another antagonist making an appearance in the movie, and it's pretty out of left field.
Based on recent reports, it appears as though Jared Leto will return to the DC Extended Universe as Joker. How exactly is the Clown Prince of Crime going to fit into an intergalactic conflict? That remains to be seen, but fans already have plenty of opinions about the casting.
Fans seem to be ecstatic that Jared Leto will return as Joker
Jared Leto's Joker didn't appear in the original Justice League, and there's no indication he was supposed to have a role in the film originally. It's possible the creative talent behind the scenes just wants to throw in as much as they can to give fans the comic book movie event of 2021, though ultimately, it doesn't really matter how Leto's Joker will fit into the narrative because fans are hyped up for his return.
A Reddit thread following the announcement of the Leto news is filled with words of praise for Leto's comeback. A few of the ecstatic statements to be gleaned include, "I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S HAPPENING. Legit crazy" and "Yes! I'm so hyped! I can't wait to see Batfleck and Letoker on the screen together."
Although the news just broke, many fans are already theorizing how Jared Leto's Joker could fit into Snyder's film. Redditor u/ChrisP1223 offers a couple of ideas, "I'm thinking one of two things either Leto scenes will include him hiring Deathstroke to break Lex out of prison for future untitled plans or Leto joker will be involved with the Knightmare sequence where Joker and Batman work together in an apocalyptic future where Darkseid and Superman are in control."
Of course, it's helpful to remember that Zack Snyder's Justice League will be a four-part miniseries on HBO Max. It's possible Leto's inclusion could be a way to set up a possible spinoff series, and one fan, Redditor u/SupesKenobi, suggests that's one possible direction: "Hopefully this is a sign that Ben is signing on to his Batman series for HBO MAX." Whether this is Leto's last outing as Joker or a springboard for future projects, some fans are just happy to finally see the character in the hands of Snyder. Redditor u/Rye-Van speaks for a lot of fans by mentioning, "Zack Snyder's interpretation of Joker is something I have always wanted. And with lines by Chris Terrio no less!"
Zack Snyder's Justice League is shaping up to be the cinematic event of next year. People who have been waiting for the Snyder Cut are bound to be ecstatic, and Jared Leto's return is just icing on the cake. The series is expected to debut on HBO Max sometime in 2021.
