Emily In Paris Season 2 - What We Know So Far

Since its premiere on October 2, Emily in Paris has enchanted and enraged Netflix viewers in equal measure. The show, from legendary Sex and the City creator Darren Star, follows young professional Emily (Lily Collins), as she navigates love and life in Paris after landing a life-changing job opportunity. The ten-episode premiere series has been applauded as the perfect escapist story to binge watch while being stuck at home, but some have also heavily criticized the series for presenting a one-dimensional take on Parisians and French culture.

Despite any controversy, fans of the show these days are eager to have one question answered: Will there be a season 2?

The finale of season 1 saw Emily facing quite the conundrum: After her forbidden love interest Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) announces his decision to move to Normandy to open his own restaurant, she and the handsome chef share a passionate night together. When Emily later learns that Gabriel has received funding to open up a restaurant in Paris and won't be leaving after all, it becomes clear that the two of them will have to grapple with the aftermath of their hook-up, which is sure to be messy, considering that Gabriel is the very recent ex-boyfriend of Camille, one of the first friends that Emily made in Paris.

If you're on tenterhooks waiting to find out where things go from there, here's everything we know so far about the future of Emily in Paris.

When will season 2 be on Netflix?

Netflix has yet to announce a release date for season 2, or even officially renew the show for a sophomore season. As Good Housekeeping pointed out, while the show is distributed by Netflix, it's produced by MTV Studios, so it's unclear who needs to give the go-ahead. Still, Collins told Vanity Fair in early October that Netflix was waiting to see how the show performed before making any decisions; now that the series has been available to stream for weeks, it's a safe bet that news regarding a possible season 2 may be coming soon. In the meantime, fans can at least take comfort in knowing that the series' creators and its stars are all on board for a continuation of Emily's story.

"I would love nothing more than to be able to go back to Paris and do [a new season]," Collins told Vanity Fair. The star also told Harper's Bazaar that the cast and crew are all hoping to do another season, and that she in particular is hoping that her character will get a chance to travel across Europe with best friend Mindy in future storylines.

Similarly, series creator Darren Star expressed interest in a second season when speaking to E! News recently, telling the outlet that there are, "A lot of forks in the road and a lot of places to go" in the story.

Who will be in the Emily in Paris cast in season 2?

Fans of the show can expect all of the series' regulars to return, should Netflix greenlight a second season. Emily (Lily Collins), Mindy (Ashley Park), and Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), have all commented on their hopes for their characters' storylines in season 2, and there's no reason to suspect that the rest of the main cast — Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), Antoine (William Abadie), Julien (Samuel Arnold), and Luc (Bruno Gouery) — won't also be returning.

It's safe to say that Emily's love interest Gabriel will be getting more screen time, considering that season 1 ended with the pair spending the night together. Series creator Star also suggested that season 2 would see other side characters, like Emily's boss, have bigger roles.

"We have a great world of characters that we've established," Star told Vanity Fair. "I'd like to explore so much more of the supporting cast, like Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, who plays Emily's boss. I think we've just scratched the surface of who she is and what makes her tick."

What will the plot of Emily in Paris season 2 be?

Season 2 will see Emily being less of a fish out of water and more comfortable and confident, series creator Darren Star told Oprah Mag.

"In season 2, she's going to be more of a part of the fabric of the world she's living in. She'll be more of a resident of the city," Star said. "She'll have her feet on the ground a little more. She's making a life there."

While Star admitted during a recent interview that he hasn't yet begun planning the specifics of season 2, Collins also recently revealed that those involved with the show have already begun taking notes on where they want the story to go.

"There were so many situations that we were like, 'Okay, write that down. That's going to happen in season two,'" Collins told Vanity Fair. "Also, there were many experiences where we were like, 'Does Emily go abroad? Do you think Emily takes the Eurostar and hops out and goes to Belgium or she goes to London?' That would be so much fun."

It's also safe to assume that, like many shows, Emily in Paris may see a delay in filming due to the COVID-19 pandemic if it's renewed, but if there's one thing fans can count on, it's that Paris will continue to shine in future seasons.

"If we get picked up, I hope we'll be back in Paris next spring and things will ease up a little bit," Star told Glamour.
