Wolverine 3 Official Title, Release Date Revealed
In a world filled with increasingly long superhero movie titles, producers of the upcoming third Wolverine solo flick will attempt to stand apart.
Director James Mangold and star Hugh Jackman took to social media to share the first poster for Wolverine 3, and it finally reveals the simple, concise title: Logan.
In a recent interview, Jackman said the movie (which will feature his final turn as the Marvel comics character) has a "very different tone" than previous installments in the series. As Entertainment Weekly points out, rumor has it that the movie is based on the 2008 comic Old Man Logan, in which an older Wolverine lives in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Although there's no confirmation about the plot, the title and poster suggest a much more humanized flick than 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine and 2013's The Wolverine.
The poster shows a child's hand holding Logan's, which EW notes could point to a plot with similarities to a classic Western since "a young child paired with a grizzled old fighter is a common trope in the genre." Although Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds jokingly tweeted that the tiny hand is actually his.
The poster does, however, confirm one important detail: the movie will hit theaters March 3, 2017. Check it out below, and find out the dark side of X-Men you never knew about.
