All Of The Character Deaths In The Walking Dead Season 10
One of the things The Walking Dead is known for is its enormous cast. Part of the reason for the big size is that it's an ensemble show that portrays many different types of people dealing with life after the zombie apocalypse, and another is because the average Walking Dead character has the lifespan of a goldfish. If the series wasn't constantly introducing fresh faces to the mix, by now, the only characters left on the series would be Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) ... oh wait, that's actually not a bad idea.
In the grand tradition of the series, season 10 of The Walking Dead was a bloodbath. With season 11 coming in 2021, let's look back at those we lost in the Whisperer War and other conflicts the survivors faced. In memoriam, here are all the characters who died in season 10 of The Walking Dead. And let's take a moment of silence at the top to acknowledge all the nameless Alexandria and Hilltop residents, Whisperers, and other randoms who perished in anonymity. They may be gone, but they have also mostly been forgotten.
The Whisperers claimed many more lives in season 10 of The Walking Dead
The Whisperers, who wear the skin of the undead to blend in with their ambling hordes, violently introduced themselves to the citizens of the Coalition at the end of season 9 and didn't turn over a new leaf in season 10. They killed minor characters — like Hilltop Colony scouts Felix (Gianni Biasetti Jr.) and Penny (Kristin Reyelt), who were caught by the group and hanged — and characters we'd been with for several seasons alike. Oceanside resident Beatrice (Briana Venskus), who once bravely defended her settlement from the Saviors, was stabbed in the leg by a Whisperer and left to be devoured by the horde, while Hilltop militia member Oscar (Anthony Lopez) was knifed in the chest.
The Whisperers also killed their own. Frances (Juliet Brett), who couldn't keep it together while walking among the dead, was thrown to a horde of walkers by her own sister, Mary (Thora Birch). Later in the season, Mary had deep regrets about Frances' death. She defected from the group, but was later brutally disemboweled by Beta (Ryan Hurst).
Beta, a former country music star, also dispatched Highwaymen member Alfred (David Shae) and former Negan henchwoman Laura (Lindsley Register). Another Whisperer with a high body count was Dante (Juan Javier Cardenas), a spy who infiltrated Alexandria. He smothered kindly old lady Cheryl (Rebecca Koon) with a pillow, and later strangled the community's doctor, Siddiq (Avi Nash), a crime for which he would later pay with his own life.
Danger came for the survivors from every direction in The Walking Dead season 10
The Whisperers weren't the only ones who spilled blood during season 10. Many characters met their deaths at the hands of other survivors, the ambling and ever-present walkers, or, in some cases, themselves.
After killing Siddiq, Dante was quickly captured and stabbed to death by former priest Gabriel Stokes (Seth Gilliam) in retribution. Dante wasn't the only killer to face swift justice. Former Savior Brandon (Blaine Kern III) brutally murdered Amelia and Milo (Virginia Newcomb & Roman Spink), a woman and her son who were found wandering down the road, because he believed doing so would win him favor with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Instead, his idol responded by beating him to death with a rock.
Negan also killed Margo (Jerri Tubbs), a hardened soldier and member of the Highwaymen. When Negan discovered Margo and her friends tormenting Lydia (Cassady McClincy), the daughter of the Whisperer leader Alpha (Samantha Morton) who defected to live in the Alexandria Safe-Zone, he hurled Margo off the young woman and into a wall, giving her fatal brain damage in the process.
As we've seen frequently on the show, some survivors opted to end their own lives, rather than face whatever horrors lay in front of them. While visiting the doomed colony of Bloodsworth Island, Michonne (Danai Gurira) found the hanging bodies of Lisa (Denisha Gillespie) and her children. Back on the mainland, Hilltop Colony blacksmith Earl Sutton (John Finn) found himself bitten while defending Hilltop from the Whisperer's horde. Instead of waiting to turn, he set a railroad spike down on a table and slammed his own head into it.
Season 10 of The Walking Dead saw the death of two major antagonists
The Whisperers, led by Alpha and her right-hand-man, Beta, were a formidable group of adversaries for the Coalition. However, even though the group skillfully used camouflage to move among the walker hordes and skirt death, they couldn't run from their fates forever.
Alpha was the first of the Whisperer bigwigs to meet her end. Negan infiltrated the group, and, after gaining Alpha's trust, he took her out with a quick slice to the throat. He later delivered her zombified head to Carol, who put it on a pike as a warning that she's not someone to be messed with.
With Alpha gone, Beta became the de facto leader of the Whisperers. Ultimately, during a climactic showdown between the group and the other survivors, Beta was tracked down in the horde by Daryl, who stabbed the hulking man in the eyes, causing him to cry out and be consumed by his own walkers.
There's one more unfortunate soul to discuss before we wrap up. Although he's a pretty minor character, the award for Wildest Death of the Season undoubtedly belongs to the Whisperer Rufus (Mark Sivertsen). After he and Beta find Alpha's zombified head, Beta pushes him close to it and poor Rufus has his ear bitten off by what's left of his former leader. A tough way to go, but in the world of The Walking Dead, that's just business.
