Marvel Fans Finally Get The Doctor Strange 2 Casting News They've Been Waiting For
Lately, it seems like everyone and their mother is entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU's third Spider-Man film will have the reunion of all reunions, bringing Alfred Molina back to reprise his role of Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2. What's more, if rumors are to be believed, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield may also return to come back as Web-Heads.
With all the excitement, it can be easy to overlook the fact that the multiverse won't be limited to the next Spider-Man movie. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will see the Sorcerer Supreme get into plenty of sticky situations, as he travels from one reality to the next. In addition to Sam Raimi — who directed the 2000s Spider-Man trilogy — returning to the world of superhero films by directing the follow-up, the sequel also sees the addition of Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). The MCU is more inter-connected than ever before, but, until now, the question has remained: would Stephen Strange's romantic interest in the first film, Dr. Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), return or would she go the way of Natalie Portman's Jane Foster and dip out of the franchise?
According to a recent Deadline report, we now have official confirmation that McAdams will indeed reprise her role for the sequel, and fans have to be excited to see what her character does this time around.
Fans are ecstatic about Rachel McAdams' return to the Doctor Strange
As of right now, it's unclear how McAdams' character will factor into the dimension-hopping adventure that will be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Perhaps in one alternate reality, we'll see Dr. Christine Palmer adopt her comic book persona, Night Nurse. With the multiverse and the powers of the Scarlet Witch in the mix, anything is possible.
The thought of having the talents of both McAdams and Olsen in a single movie is incredibly enticing to some fans.
"Two of my favorite actresses of all time, Elizabeth Olsen and Rachel McAdams could possibly share some screen time in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and I'm all here for it!" Twitter user @guywithfoureyes wrote.
McAdams is a great actress, and fans are excited to hopefully see her have more to do in the sequel; "I really like Rachel McAdams, and Sam Raimi is great with female characters. But I doubt she's gonna have a lot to do... still, I'll take it!" Twitter user @GraceRandolph said.
It appears as though many fans felt Dr. Palmer was underutilized in the first film, but, much in the same way Natalie Portman's Jane Foster will become the God of Thunder in Thor: Love and Thunder, it's possible the creative forces behind-the-scenes will give McAdams' character more to do going forward.
Dr. Christine Palmer has a rich history in the comics and venturing into the multiverse would make for the perfect opportunity to explore other sides of her character. Seeing as how Benedict Cumberbatch needs to wrap his role in Spider-Man 3, the magic-filled sequel has plenty of time to get all its multiversal ducks in a row before production begins.
