Tessa Thompson Just Described Thor 4 In The Best Way Possible
When it splashed onto the screen three years ago, Thor: Ragnarok was the jolt in the arm the Marvel Cinematic Universe needed. With a bright color palette and a willingness to critically examine its protagonist and his place in the world, it's safe to say Thor: Ragnarok changed the MCU and set the stage for other filmmakers in the Marvel stable to really think outside of the box. Intergalactic gladiator battles, talking piles of rocks, and neon-colored spaceship races will likely just be the tip of the iceberg when the follow-up, Thor: Love and Thunder, is released in 2022.
One of the best parts of Ragnarok is coming back for the sequel: Valkyrie, as played by Tessa Thompson. She's the hard-drinking bounty hunter who joins Thor's forces to return to Asgard and stop the villainous Hela (Cate Blanchett). It's incredibly exciting to think of how Valkyrie will interact with the likes of new Thor Jane Foster (a returning Natalie Portman) as well as the newest threat in the galaxy, Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). While details concerning the plot are still sparse, we do have something of an idea of what to expect, based on a recent statement from Thompson herself.
Tessa Thompson says Thor: Love and Thunder will be 'very funny' and 'very touching'
Tessa Thompson recently sat down with Entertainment Tonight to promote her upcoming film, Sylvie's Love, which will be available to stream exclusively on Amazon Prime on December 23, 2020. After spending some time discussing the great costumes she gets to wear in the film, the topic quickly switched to her future return to the MCU in Thor: Love and Thunder.
She admitted that she couldn't say much, as the movie is only now preparing to go into production. However, she did offer a tease as to what audiences can expect. "It is very funny," said Thompson, citing the script she recently received. "It's very, very funny and actually very touching." Thor: Ragnarok was one of the most hilarious MCU films ever made, so it's nice to hear that Love and Thunder will carry on with that trajectory.
Superhero fans aren't the only ones excited to hear an update regarding the upcoming film. Thompson's Sylvie's Love co-star Nnamdi Asomugha went on to ask, "Are there any roles still left to be cast?" It seemed to all be in jest, but we're guessing if director Taika Waititi gave him a call, he'd pick up the phone.
