Tom Holland Calls Spider-Man 3 The 'Most Ambitious Standalone Superhero Movie' Of All Time
Fans have a lot to look forward to when the Marvel Cinematic Unvierse's Spider-Man 3 makes its debut — at least that's what Tom Holland is saying. During a recent interview with Variety, Holland talked about the upcoming film, stating that it's going to be "the most ambitious standalone superhero movie" to ever grace cinema screens. Although the actor couldn't offer many details about the film, he did hint that the screenplay for Spider-Man 3 left him in awe. "You sit down, read the script, and see what they're trying to do and they're succeeding," Holland said. "It's really impressive. I've never seen a standalone superhero movie quite like it."
In addition to being wowed by the film's script, Holland did offer some details regarding the movie's filming schedule. He mentioned that Spider-Man 3 is still very much in the shooting stage, so it'll more than likely take some time before fans get a glimpse of the movie. "We got a lot more shooting to do," Holland said. "We started before Christmas and shot for like seven weeks. We stopped for the Christmas break. And then we're starting again. I'm just as excited as everyone else to see it, let alone be a part of it."
What can fans expect from Spider-Man 3
While the third MCU Spider-Man movie is set to premiere on December 17, 2021, there have only been a few nuggets of news. In regards to casting, Benedict Cumberbatch is on hand as Doctor Strange, while Alfred Molina is reprising his role as Doc Ock from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2. In addition to Molina's appearance, there have been unconfirmed rumors that Spider-Men Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield may also make a return for the film. All of this suggests that the movie is poised to explore the multiverse possibilities set up by both Spider-Man: Far from Home and Into the Spider-Verse.
More recently, photos from the film's set have also surfaced, featuring Holland suited up in what looks to be a winter setting. MJ (Zendaya) also appears in these photos, interacting with Holland's Peter Parker during what looks to be her work shift. While these photos don't offer any real clues as to what fans can expect from Spider-Man 3, they do at least line up with the film schedule that Holland had previously mentioned in the interview. It's speculated that this wintery look might hint at a possible Christmas setting, but we likely won't know much for sure until Marvel and Sony drop a trailer for Spider-Man 3.
