Mayans M.C. Season 3 Release Date, Cast, Plot - What We Know So Far

It's been a long time since FX's Mayans M.C. closed out its second — and most recent — season. The Sons of Anarchy spin-off aired its season 2 finale back in November 2019, and the series hasn't aired a new episode since then.

Season 3 of Mayans M.C. is shaping up to be a little different from its first two seasons as well. The spin-off series, which takes place two-and-a-half years after the events of the Sons of Anarchy finale and follows the work of the Mayans Motorcycle Club in California, was co-created by Elgin James and Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. However, Sutter was fired from the show near the tail end of its second season, and James took over as sole showrunner on the series for season 3.

That means there were some major differences between the creation of Mayans M.C.'s previous two seasons, and its highly anticipated third. Whether the absence of Sutter from Mayans M.C.'s third season will be apparent in the show itself remains to be seen, but fans won't have to wait much longer to find out.

What's the release date for Mayans M.C. season 3?

FX has officially announced that Mayans M.C. season 3 will premiere Tuesday, March 16, at 10 p.m. EST/9 p.m. CST with two new back-to-back episodes. The 10-episode season's long-awaited premiere will arrive more than 16 months since the Mayans M.C. season 2 finale aired on November 5, 2019. The two premiere episodes of Mayans M.C. season 3 will also be available to stream on Hulu the day after their initial airing on FX.

In addition to the premiere date announcement, FX also released an official teaser trailer for Mayans M.C. season 3. The trailer itself doesn't offer much story-wise, but it does feature the titular biker gang — led by J.D. Pardo's Ezekiel "EZ" Reyes — riding through the desert together. Based on the trailer's song choice, which promises that "a new king will be crowned," it looks like EZ will only continue making a name for himself in the new season as well.

Who will be in the cast of Mayans M.C. season 3?

It is expected that a large majority of the core Mayans M.C. cast will be returning for the show's third season. That includes J.D. Pardo as Ezekiel "EZ" Reyes, Sarah Bolger as Emily, Michael Irby as Bishop, Clayton Cardenas as Angel, Danny Pino as Miguel, Ray McKinnon as Potter, Emilio Rivera as Alvarez, Carla Baratta as Adelita, Edward James Olmos as Felipe, Raoul Trujillo as Taza, and Richard Cabral as Coco.

There will, however, be a few key members from Mayans M.C.'s first two seasons that will not be returning for the third. Antonio Jaramillo and Ada Maris are not expected to appear in Mayans M.C. season 3, following the deaths of Riz and Dita in season 2.

Given the events of the season 2 finale, there is also the potential for a handful of Sons of Anarchy stars to make some surprise appearances in Mayans M.C.'s third season — so keep an eye out for that Sons of Anarchy fans.

What will Mayans M.C. season 3 be about?

Mayans M.C. will pick up a few months after the violent events of the show's season 2 finale. J.D. Pardo's EZ Reyes is now a fully patched member of Mayans M.C. and will spend the season not only working to find a solid place for himself within the club but also struggling to come to terms with some of his actions in the previous season.

Showrunner Elgin James also teased to EW that the third season will, apparently, see EZ "torn between darkness and the gravitational pull of his new love interest." Meanwhile, season 3 of Mayans M.C. promises to be a difficult one for Clayton Cardenas' Angel, who will be stuck in a spiral of "sex, booze, and violence" until a surprising "shot at redemption" presents itself to him.

Just in case that didn't already sound like enough drama and turmoil, Mayans M.C. season 3 will also find the show's titular club working to cover up a mistake made in the season 2 finale — when they accidentally killed a member of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original club (a.k.a. SAMCRO). Only time will tell how that particular season 2 thread plays a role in the upcoming season's story, but all in all, season 3 of Mayans M.C. promises to be one that fans definitely won't want to miss.
