How Old Is Ahsoka Tano In The Mandalorian?
In the wake of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, The Mandalorian ushered in a new age for the enduring IP. Occupying the space between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, the Disney+ original takes a deep dive into what's going on in the galaxy, away from the Skywalker saga. This includes western-style gunfights on distant worlds, exploration of Mandalorian culture, glimpses into the Empire's attempted resurrection, and so much more. However, in season 2 especially, The Mandalorian has begun to tap into Star Wars' past to build toward its future.
To conjure up feelings of nostalgia, the program didn't shy away from bringing back some original trilogy mainstays. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill and Max Lloyd-Jones) popped up in The Mandalorian's season 2 finale, Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) made an impressive return, and even Bib Fortuna (Matthew Wood) scored a brief cameo. Also, the mastermind behind Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Dave Filoni, played a major role in the most recent season, bringing some of his creations from animation to live-action for the first time. Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) arrived first, followed by the highly-anticipated debut of Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) shortly thereafter.
Considering her status as a fan-favorite, viewers the world over celebrated Ahsoka's Mandalorian introduction. She had obviously come a long way since her time on The Clone Wars and Rebels, standing on her own as a seasoned Force user. The question for many, however, is how old is she at this point in the timeline? Thankfully, the Star Wars canon holds the answer.
Ahsoka Tano isn't just a kid anymore
Born in the year 36BBY (before the Battle of Yavin), Ahsoka Tano made her first appearance in 2008's Star Wars: The Clone Wars theatrical film set in 22BBY. That would put her at 14 years old when the Clone War kicked off, making her 17 by the time it ended in 19BBY. Ahsoka then pops up in the latter portion of Star Wars Rebels' first season that takes place between 4 and 5BBY. By the beginning of the Galactic Civil War, she's roughly 32 years old — since it starts in 4BBY — meaning she is around 41 when it concludes in 5ABY (after the Battle of Yavin).
With The Mandalorian season 2 in the year 9ABY, that would place Ahsoka somewhere in the neighborhood of 44 to 45 years old. It's plain to see that she's one of Star Wars' most well-documented entities, and her story isn't quite over yet. As announced during the 2020 Disney Investor Day event, the news broke that Rosario Dawson's interpretation of the beloved Togruta is receiving her own Disney+ exclusive spinoff. It will likely chronicle her search for Rebels' own Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger, inching her closer to the rise of the First Order and the Resistance.
To paraphrase a line from Raiders of the Lost Ark, it's not about the years, it's the mileage, and Ahsoka Tano isn't slowing down any time soon.
