Following the release of director Joss Whedon's controversial Justice League in 2017, fans were understandably upset. The final product wasn't what they'd hoped it would be, nor was it what Warner Bros. had advertised, leading to the rise of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement. Individuals from across the globe took to social media in hopes of convincing the studio to put out Zack Snyder's version of the superhero team-up, eventually succeeding. As of this writing, 12 days remain until Snyder's 4-hour long cut of Justice League arrives via HBO Max, and excitement is reaching an all-time high.
Much like the campaign that led to its completion, the plot of the "Snyder Cut" is all about teamwork. Unlike the previous Justice League movie, the titular team has to take on not only Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), but the likes of Darkseid (Ray Porter), DeSaad (Peter Guinness), and more — a task that demands nothing less than the best of the best. That call to action will bring together Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Batman (Ben Affleck), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Flash (Ezra Miller), and Aquaman (Jason Momoa).
Following the arrival of his own feature in 2018, the aquatic Justice League member has grown quite popular among DC fans. Using this to further build anticipation for the film, the Twitter account for Zack Snyder's Justice League released a sizzle reel for the Protector of the Deep on March 6, 2021. Suffice to say, those on the social media platform absolutely ate it up.
Fans are ready to see what Zack Snyder has in store for Aquaman
The teaser runs roughly 40 seconds long but speaks volumes about where Aquaman, also known as Arthur Curry, is headed. The clip begins with him swimming toward a trident that once belonged to his mother, Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman), while dialogue from Mera (Amber Heard), Vulko (Willem Dafoe), and more tell of his past, and his destiny. Aquaman is then shown jumping into action to stop a flood — a scene that carries over from the 2017 Justice League — with narration from him that claims "Fighting the devil and his army, in hell" is "a bad idea." This likely points to the coming conflict between the Justice League and Darkseid's horde and the uncertainty surrounding the entire situation.
Despite its brevity, the video sent Aquaman die-hards into a frenzy. "All Hail the King!" wrote Twitter user @PrideofAtlantis, accompanied by three trident emojis, and @mononisraeluc adds, "Jason is so badass as #Aquaman." @Dough_boy91 commended the visuals in the teaser and took a moment to lobby for future Justice League installments, commenting, "@ZackSnyder absolutely nailed the underwater shots!! Even the sway of the hair looks spot on! Let's get those sequels @WarnerMedia @jasonkilar @hbomax @ATT #Aquaman #ArthurCurry #SnyderCut."
Thanks to legions of devoted fans, including the ones noted above, Aquaman even spent some time on Twitter's trending list — opening the door for discussion about the character, his solo movie, and his presence in Justice League. When the ensemble film hits HBO Max on March 18, Twitter's resident Aqua-fans will surely have plenty more to talk about.
