How WandaVision's Ending Might Tie Into The Beginning Of Doctor Strange 2
WandaVision ended in typical Marvel Cinematic Universe fashion, with a post-credits sequence. After all the hubbub in Westview, we find Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) living in a remote cabin. At first, it seems like she's just emotionally recuperating from all the loss the character has endured. But as the camera pushes through the tiny cabin in the woods, we see that Wanda is studying the Darkhold via astral projection.
This is a favorite study technique of magic users in the MCU. Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange does the same thing when he needs to do some mystical cramming. Stephen Strange used his astral body to study the texts of the Kamar-Taj, and Wanda appears to be doing exactly that with the Darkhold.
What she'll get from that alleged "Book of the Damned" is troubling. The Darkhold has appeared in both Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Runaways, and it had a corrupting influence on its readers in both.
As The Independent pointed out, this scene underscores the link between Wanda and Strange by playing a slowed-down, spookier version of Doctor Strange's theme under this scene.
Could WandaVision's ending hold a clue to what lurks in the multiverse?
As has been previously confirmed, the Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda, will be appearing in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. This post-credits sequence gives clues as to what her role will be in that film. As Wanda studies the Darkhold, she hears the voices of her children screaming for help. Wanda may come to Strange to help her find her children, who might still exist somewhere in the multiverse.
On the other hand, Agatha Harkness said that the Scarlet Witch may one day exceed the power of the Sorcerer Supreme and that her destiny is to end the world. Strange is the current Sorcerer Supreme, and he might not want to help someone who a.) is more powerful than him and b.) might make all of existence go kablooey. Wanda has already brainwashed an entire town without knowing it. Studying the Darkhold so intensely might corrupt her rather than educate her. It's possible the Scarlet Witch is actually the Doctor Strange sequel's villain.
Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is set to premiere in 2022, but the production has been plagued with issues. First, director Scott Derrickson quit over creative differences. Then production had to be shut down because of a surge of COVID-19 cases. But we can't wait to eventually see how Wanda's role plays out in the film.
