The Worst Thing Hazel Ever Did In The Umbrella Academy Season 1
Netflix's The Umbrella Academy is memorable for its main heroes, the adopted Hargreeves siblings. But appealing as this dysfunctional family is, there's no denying that the show's villain game is also on point. From the conniving Handler (Kate Walsh) and her superpowered adopted daughter Lila Pitts (Ritu Arya) to the triple threat of the Swedes (Kris Holden-Ried, Jason Bryden and Tom Sinclair), The Umbrella Academy has given us many captivating baddies with miles of depth, to boot. And how could it not, after coming in swinging with the amazing pair of brutal Commission assassins, Hazel (Cameron Britton) and Cha-Cha (Mary J. Blige)?
Over the course of the show's first season, this team of mask-wearing enforcers demonstrate their tight working relationship and deadly efficiency — that is, until Hazel's budding romance with Agnes (Sheila McCarthy) drives a wedge between them. Since this means Hazel is a villain for much of the series, he commits a bunch of truly nefarious deeds before love conquers all, but which one of them is the most horrid? It's a tough call, but one gross betrayal definitely stands out.
Here's the worst thing Hazel ever did in The Umbrella Academy season 1.
Hazel doomed Cha-Cha by leaving her to die in the apocalypse
Though he very much starts out as a dangerous villain, Hazel ultimately reveals himself to be a pretty decent guy by the end of The Umbrella Academy season 1. He's even further redeemed by the beginning of season 2, in which his time-meddling antics save Five (Aidan Gallagher) and, by proxy, the world. However, his past history as an assassin means that he still has a laundry list of awfulness behind him, ranging from torture to murder.
As Screen Rant attests, Hazel and Cha-Cha do most of their dirty deeds as a team. However, when Hazel's relationship with Agnes causes him to re-evaluate his priorities, the pair turns on each other with a vengeance. This culminates in what's arguably the worst solo act Hazel does over the course of the show: He escapes the Apocalypse with Agnes, but leaves Cha-Cha to die with the rest of the world. No matter how toxic their relationship had turned, that's a pretty cold way to treat a friend and coworker.
