The Wildest Theory About The Raccoon From The Masked Singer
Fans of Fox's The Masked Singer — one of the newest singing competitions to sweep the country — love using their detective skills to try to figure out which of their favorite celebrities are behind the top-secret performances. Since its premiere in 2019, the series has already seen performances from entertainers such as T-Pain, Jojo Siwa, Paul Anka, and even Kermit The Frog, showing that there are no limits to who could possibly be on stage next. Season 5 of the hit show premiered on March 10, 2021, and fans already have some pretty solid theories about the remaining contestants.
One of this season's biggest mysteries is the person behind The Raccoon. After watching the first performances and ruminating over the clues we have so far, fans are pretty torn about who the singer's identity could be. But, ultimately, one theory is the wildest.
Is The Raccoon a rock legend?
One of the wildest theories, per Good Housekeeping, is that the person inside The Raccoon is Brian Johnson. For those who aren't classic rock fans, Johnson was the lead singer of the legendary rock band AC/DC. He was the voice of the albums Back in Black and For Those About to Rock, among others.
Why do fans believe Johnson may be The Raccoon? One of the clues that people think points to him is the fact that The Raccoon spent time in jail, and AC/DC has a song titled Jailbreak (though Johnson wasn't a part of the band for that album). Fans also think The Raccoon's mention of "being sharp" could hint at another AC/DC album that Johnson contributed to, The Razors Edge. Another connection is to The Raccoon's rough patches in life, specifically when they said "Sometimes, to get the happy ending, you have to go through hell first." This could also relate to Johnson, who's gone through his fair share of obstacles, including several health issues, per Ultimate Classic Rock.
But while Johnson may be the wildest theory, there's another possibility as well.
Or is The Raccoon a famous actor?
According to Entertainment Weekly, many fans are convinced The Raccoon is actually Danny Trejo, the actor who has made a name for himself as one of Hollywood's most famous butt-kickers. Trejo definitely has a lot more connections with The Raccoon than Johnson: he's spent time in jail, he often plays characters who share the name of sharp objects (Machete in Spy Kids, Razor Charlie in From Dusk Till Dawn, etc.), and he's definitely been through some rough patches in life — i.e. his stints in jail.
Also, in The Raccoon's clue package, they were shown in a jail cell marking the walls with 44 lines, which may be a nod to 1944, aka the year Trejo was born. Yet another clue is The Raccoon mentioning they read The Hunchback of Notre Dame to stay sane. In an interview on SiriusXM, Trejo once said that he would act out scenes from the same story when he was in solitary confinement. The vast number of similarities have many fans convinced that the raspy-voiced actor is the man behind the mask, and we're excited to see which (if any) of these fan theories is true.
