The Character That Had One Of The Worst Storylines On Vikings
Those who watch History's wildly popular — and bloody — drama Vikings are typically drawn into the show by its strong cast of characters, inspired by figures from Northern Europe's history and mythology, and the exciting adventures they had over six seasons.
Fan favorites like the farmer-turned-king Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), the shield-maiden Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), and their son, Björn "Ironside" Lothbrok (Alexander Ludwig), had pretty juicy storylines while the show aired from 2013 to 2020 (per IMDb). Their exciting adventures saw them raiding in England, fighting in France, or sailing as far as the Mediterranean, and other characters had significant story arcs that involved life-changing decisions like dabbling in a foreign religion or other traditions of far-off lands.
While most of the core characters were incredibly interesting, there's one character in particular that fans tend to agree had one of the worst storylines on Vikings. We've got the scoop on what viewers have had to say about it.
Many fans feel that Torvi had a pretty lackluster story
There are a lot of Vikings fans who think Torvi (Georgia Hirst) had one of the worst storylines over the show's six seasons. The character started out as Jarl Borg's (Thorbjørn Harr) somewhat-neglected second wife, but she went on to marry Björn, and then Ubbe Lothbrok (Jordan Patrick). However, as Screen Rant notes, many fans have a problem with Torvi's lack of direction in the show — as she seems to always follow the lead of others rather than strike out on her own — and her bland personality.
A Reddit thread gave fans a chance to vent about what they didn't like about Torvi's storyline on Vikings. One fan wrote, "She had plenty of screen time, but makes no decisions of relevance. Despite killing erlendur she had no effect on the story." Another Redditor agreed, writing that "Torvi's decision making this season has been terrible along with her parenting skills."
Torvi's character on Vikings was boring, and her parenting skills were awful
Many fans also take issue with Torvi's parenting skills on Vikings. She consistently makes bad decisions when it comes to her children, and she ultimately plays a role in some of their deaths.
For instance, she watches her firstborn son, Guthrum (Ben Roe) die in a season 5 battle that she encouraged him to fight in. She then sees her other children die because of the decisions she makes. As Showbiz CheatSheet notes, another son dies when she leaves him in the care of others, and her daughter gets swept away during a storm at sea that Torvi chose to take her sailing on.
Torvi even offers the life of her unborn child as a sacrifice, as one Redditor lamented. "Torvi is awful," they wrote. "She is a dreadful mother leaving her children behind and blaming others for the consequences. Pregnant and offers herself for a sacrifice. Awful."
