The Instagram Post That Has Spider-Man Fans Thinking Tobey Maguire Is Definitely In No Way Home
Spider-Man: No Way Home has officially wrapped filming, according to its lead stunt coordinator, George Cottle. The Tom Holland-led flick began production back in October of last year, per Empire, and pushed through the many COVID-19 hurdles. Six months later, it's a wrap, and presuming that there's no further reshuffling of Marvel or Sony's schedule, it'll be a little over nine months before the third MCU Spidey film lands in theaters.
No Way Home has been one of the most-theorized-about projects in Phase 4 of the MCU, as it's rumored (though still confirmed) to be delving into the much-anticipated multiverse. Rumors had long suggested that we would be seeing former Web-Slingers and other characters from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's previous Spider-Man films pop up in No Way Home, as a way to open up the multiverse, but these theories been shot down time after time by those involved in the project, including Holland himself (via Esquire), who previously said, "No, no, they will not be appearing in this film. Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me."
However, rumors are heating up regarding Maguire and Garfield yet again, this time due to an Instagram post from the stunt coordinator, wherein he celebrated the film wrapping.
Spider-Man stunt coordinator George Cottle tagged a few suspicious stuntmen in his post
Cottle thanked everyone he could think of in his March 27 post to celebrate the wrap, and one particular mention has some heads turning. The stuntman didn't tag a specific account, but did hashtag #chrisdaniels, a name very familiar in the Spider-Man world: per Daniels' IMDB page, he was the stunt-double for Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man in the Sam Raimi trilogy from the early 2000s.
Is he back to be Maguire's stunt double again? It remains to be seen. It should be mentioned that Daniels has worked on several MCU projects in the past, including Avengers: Endgame, Black Panther and Spider-Man: Far From Home — it's not unusual for him to be involved in a Marvel Studios project.
This is the second Instagram post this month, though, that has fans buzzing about the possible involvement of other famous Spideys in No Way Home. The former stunt double for Garfield on The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel, William R. Spencer, posted a video from the No Way Home set which was taken down rather quickly last week.
Cottle did not tag Spencer in his post, which included a handful of the No Way Home stunt crew, but cursoring over the caption reveals that it was edited at some point. The only way to truly find out if Garfield and Maguire are in No Way Home is to catch it when it hits theaters on December 17.
