The New Deadpool Theory That Will Change The Way You See The MCU
After two successful films with 20th Century Fox, Ryan Reynolds is bringing Deadpool to the MCU. Yes, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to become the Merc with a Mouth Cinematic Universe, and the question on everyone's lips is, well ... how is that going to work, exactly?
We've been circling the drain on the possibility of an MCU multiverse for ages now. The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) hinted at the possibility of split timelines in Avengers: Endgame. Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) pretended he was from an alternate dimension in Spider-Man: Far From Home (he wasn't), and especially relevant was WandaVision's recent X-Men fake out, when they made it seem like Evan Peters was reprising the role of his Fox X-Men version of Quicksilver.
However, while we wait to find out the actual way a multiverse will work, in either the upcoming Loki series or Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, let's talk about a Deadpool theory that might just fit in perfectly. Here's how one fan took the end of Deadpool 2, and tied it into Deadpool's future in the magical world of Disney.
The secret ingredient in Deadpool 3 should be time travel
Over on Reddit, user LR-II brought up something very important about the end of Deadpool 2 — it involves a time machine. You remember that part of the movie where Deadpool goes so far back in time that he winds up in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where Ryan Reynolds first appeared as Deadpool but as a version without any mouth whatsoever? And then, remember how Deadpool kills himself to "clean up the timeline?" Well, technically speaking, Nebula (Karen Gillan) gets away with just that in Endgame, so if Deadpool's coming to the MCU, they don't even need to act like that post-credits scene was a joke.
And changing time is at the core of LR-II's theory for Deadpool 3. "Deadpool 3 could pick up after [Deadpool traveling in time] and could show Deadpool, as well as any characters they want to bring over into the MCU, going to various points and 'pushing' well known heroes into their origin stories," he wrote.
Basically, Deadpool would retroactively create the MCU as we know it today, by being the previously unseen figure that steered every major hero into their origins. Some of the examples he gives? "He could be in the car that causes Dr Strange's accident, make war look appealing to Steve Rogers, and even convince Tony Stark to show off his weapon on location in Afghanistan," wrote LR-II. "They then return to the present, finding a new world."
Essentially, the theory is that Deadpool destroys the former X-Men universe by creating the MCU. He would be the reason that the MCU exists, then, and this would explain why Deadpool is a part of it.
Now, as to whether or not that perfectly fits with MCU's rules of time travel is hard to say — but it's not like the current time travel rules make the most sense. Regardless, this would serve as a comedic way to bring Wade Wilson (and potentially Cable, Domino, X-Force, and anyone else Disney wants) into the fold in one reality-bending Deadpool movie.
