High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 2 Trailer Is Breaking The Internet
Season 2 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is set to premiere on May 14, 2021. Inspired by the beloved High School Musical film franchise from the early 2000s, the popular Disney+ mockumentary-style series focuses on the theater kids of the fictional East High School. In the first season, the theater department put on a stage production of High School Musical as a nod to East High being where the film was shot.
The first season left off on the high of a successful opening night of High School Musical, along with plenty of backstage drama amongst the cast. Namely, the will-they-won't-they couple, Nini (Olivia Rodrigo) and Ricky (Joshua Bassett), getting together — just as Nini is offered a spot at a prestigious arts high school.
With the second season just over a month away, Disney+ has just released the trailer for the upcoming season — and it immediately got fans excitedly discussing online.
Fans can't contain their excitement for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 2
The new HSM:TM:TS trailer shows the theater kids preparing for another production, which they assume will, naturally, be High School Musical 2. However, drama teacher Miss Jenn (Kate Reinders) runs into her ex-boyfriend Zack (Derek Hough), who happens to be the drama teacher at the rival school, North High. After learning that North High will be putting on The Little Mermaid — as well as entering into a competition for high school theater — Miss Jenn instead settles on Beauty and the Beast for the next production. Meanwhile, Nini and Ricky begin a long distance relationship while Nini starts at her new school; soon, a new girl at school, Lily (Olivia Rose Keegan) may threaten their relationship, as she immediately makes her interest in Ricky known.
On Twitter, fans have been posting nonstop in reaction to the two minute trailer. One user, @kanejordelia, replied to the tweet, expressing her excitement via an all caps tweet, reading, "I'M SO EXCITED I MISS THIS SHOW SO MUUUCH," complete with a compilation video of beloved central couple, Nini and Ricky. Responses in all caps weren't uncommon, as another user, @uhbucky, wrote, "OH MY GOD IM GONNA CRY IM SO EXCITED."
@Alianotfound tweeted, "Hurry up may 14th," while @jaehyunxjaemin spoke for all post-teen audiences, writing, "my grown a** gonna be tuning in every week." Another fan, @DAISYJ0HNSON, talked about how much she loves the female characters of the show, writing, "Half my motivation for this show is the inevitable drama but the other half is nini Gina courtney and ashlyn."
Based on Twitter's reactions, it's safe to say that the premiere of season two will be getting a huge wave of viewers tuning into the next iteration of East High's drama.
