New Trailer For Zack Snyder's Army Of The Dead Has Arrived
Just when you thought the world had gotten its fill of Zack Snyder projects for the year with the release of his version of Justice League, the filmmaker has let the other shoe drop. Snyder's upcoming zombie heist film Army of the Dead has been in progress for quite some time, originally announced nearly a decade and a half ago in 2007 and having started shooting in the middle of 2019, but now that we're a little over a month out from the movie's May 2021 release, a new trailer for it has arrived.
Netflix released the latest look at Army of the Dead during a press conference for the trailer on Tuesday, April 13, which Looper attended, and shared the footage with the masses at the same time journalists got to see it. The fresh trailer comes about six weeks after Netflix unveiled an Army of the Dead teaser, and roughly six weeks before the flick will be available to stream starting on May 21. (It will arrive in select theaters on May 14, for anyone brave enough to visit a cinema.)
The footage is packed to the brim with action as it follows ex-zombie war hero Scott Ward (Dave Bautista) through a Las Vegas in ruins. With his hometown in shambles after the initial outbreak of undead flesh-eaters and his time being spent cooking burgers, Ward is pretty downtrodden. But the tides of fate take a major turn when Bly Tanaka (Hiroyuki Sanada), a Las Vegas casino boss, enlists Scott to be a part of a $200 million underground heist. The U.S. government is planning to destroy Las Vegas in less than two days, and Tanaka wants to get away with as much cash as he can. Scott, seeing no better option than to accept this proposition, joins Tanaka and gathers up a group to take part in "the greatest heist ever attempted."
Army of the Dead boasts an incredible cast
Who are the scrappy experts joining Scott Ward and Bly Tanaka in this heist to end all heists? Characters played by ultra-talented stars, that's who.
Alongside Dave Bautista and Hiroyuki Sanada are, per Observer, Ella Purnell as Kate Ward, Scott's estranged daughter who works for the World Health Organization; Ana de la Reguera as Cruz, a "hard-drinking and tough-talking" mechanic who isn't in the heist solely for the money; Omari Hardwick as Vanderohe, the musclebound badass and zombie-killing expert who has "a philosophical approach to life to counteract his emotional scars from what he witnessed in the war"; Garret Dillahunt as Frank Peters, a helicopter pilot described as a "cool-as-hell older dude with slicked-back gray hair and aviators"; Nora Arnezeder as Lily, aka "the Coyote," a "tough cookie" who will do whatever it takes to survive; Matthias Schweighöfer as Ludwig Dieter, a highly skilled safe-breaker who's "the only one who is vocally excited about the mission"; and Theo Rossi as Burt Cummings, a real jerk of a guy who takes advantage of those around him.
Rounding out the cast are Raúl Castillo as Mikey Guzman, Tig Notaro as Marianne Peters, Huma Qureshi as Geeta, Chelsea Edmundson as Misty Hillman, Samantha Win as Chambers, Richard Cetrone as Zeus, and Steve Corona as Mr. Hillman.
Army of the Dead will hit select theaters on May 14 before arriving on Netflix a week later on May 21.
