Log Horizon Season 4 - What We Know So Far

The fan favorite anime "Log Horizon" wrapped up its Season 3 run in March 2021, leading many to wonder if another was on the way and, if so, when they could expect it.

For anyone just now catching up, "Log Horizon" is an isekai style anime, which is an anime genre in which the main character, or in this case, characters, are magically transported to another world. In the case of "Log Horizon," most of the show's most prominent characters are regular people trapped in the fictional online video game they play together, "Elder Tale."

While details are thin about when "Log Horizon" Season 4 will arrive, the series is an adaptation of the lengthy Japanese novel series of the same name, so there is still plenty of material for the show to explore. While official details remain thin, the show's source material and production history offer some clues as to what fans can expect next. Here is everything we know about "Log Horizon" Season 4's release date, cast, and plot.

When will Log Horizon Season 4 be released?

Unfortunately, one of the hardest things to predict is when "Log Horizon" Season 4 will be made available. The show has something of a convoluted production history, but fans can look at what has come before to at least get an idea of when they might have a chance to see their favorite characters make their way back to "Elder Tale."

"Log Horizon" premiered in 2013, and Season 1 ran for 25 episodes into March 2014 (via IMDb). Season 2 premiered later that same year, in October, and ran for another 25 episodes into March 2015. The show took a long break after that, but then began production on a 12 episode Season 3 titled "Fall of the Round Table," set to air in October 2020. However, according to the Anime News Network, production was delayed due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, keeping it from airing until January 2021.

So what does all of this mean for Season 4? The production company in charge of the show, Studio Deen, has demonstrated that they can turn around seasons quickly, but they have also shown that they are willing to take their time to give the show the attention it needs. Without more information from the creators, it's hard to say when Season 4 of "Log Horizon" will arrive, although it seems like the earliest possible juncture, at this point, would be early in 2022.

Who will be in the cast of Log Horizon Season 4?

Despite the lengthy gaps in-between seasons, "Log Horizon" has retained many of the actors involved in earlier episodes, at least for the English dub. When Funimation announced the official release date of the English dubbed version of Season 3 in February 2021, there were at least four actors in lead roles returning to the show.

These included Mike Yeager, who returned to voice the lead character, Shiroe, a quiet engineering student who becomes a heroic enchanter when he is transported to "Elder Tale." Jād Saxton was confirmed to play Akatsuki, another founding member of the "Log Horizon" guild, as was Andrew Love, who voiced Shiroe's friend since childhood, Naotsuga. The final returning lead was Jovan Jackson as Nyanta.

Without more information regarding when "Log Horizon" is scheduled to be produced or released, it remains challenging to speculate whether they will stay on board for the next set of episodes. However, the fact that they were willing to return after the show's previous break, which lasted over five years, is a good sign that fans can expect to hear from them again in Season 4.

What will the plot of Log Horizon Season 4 be about?

Season 3 of "Log Horizon" was officially titled "Log Horizon: Destruction of the Round Table," a name it shared with Volume 12 of the web novels. In Season 3, Shiro, Akatsuki, and Naotsuga managed to defeat the Eirenus Genius, freeing all of the adventurers trapped in its alternate space, and ended with a romantic confession from Minori (Luci Christian) to Shiroe, which was rebuffed.

If "Log Horizon" keeps with its pattern of following the story that the web novels do, a safe assumption might be that the next season would be named after Volume 13, "Nightingale's Song." However, as noted on Reddit, Season 3 of "Log Horizon" already incorporated elements of "Nightingale's Song" into its story, including the conflict with Eirenus Genius and Minori's advances towards Shiroe.

As a result, it may be more likely that Season 4 of "Log Horizon" would use Volume 14, "Twilight Orphan" as a starting point instead. If that is the case, fans may see Shiroe and the other heroes travel to the Chinese servers of "Elder Tale" to rescue their missing ally, Krusty.
